Submission statement:
Drinks including water, soda, beer and wine sold in glass bottles contain more microplastics than those in plastic bottles, according to a surprising study released by France’s food safety agency.
The researchers found an average of around 100 microplastic particles per litre in glass bottles of soft drinks, lemonade, iced tea and beer. That was five to 50 times higher than the rate detected in plastic bottles or metal cans.

Aren’t metal cans usually internally lined with plastic films too? What the hell are we supposed to drink from?
WHAT. I swear it’s like all bad news all the time lmao
Why anyone cares about this is beyond me. We’re all fucked and there’s just no way to avoid it.
„Six samples were examined for every reference chosen“
Section 2.2 of the study.
btw before anybody panics about this, they’re saying that this is caused by certain kinds of bottle caps in soft drinks, not all glass bottled beverages, and that a different technique of cleaning said caps would mitigate this.
They think it’s the plastic caps. The title is a little misleading.
It’s in our water. It’s in the air. It’s in the soil. It’s in our clothes. It’s in our bodies.

I drunk out the water hose growing up. My immune system is fortified to handle this.
Was this study funded by a plastic company, perhaps?
It’s sad I even have to ask that…
So, the micro-plastics from plastic bottles are too small to be counted?
well duh, the plastic bottles aren’t micro yet, they’re macro🤪🤪🤪
Who cares? There is no escaping microplastics. We have already passed the point of no return. They are in absolutely everything you can think of. Get used to it
This is one of those headlines that just smugly defy all logic and common sense
This is the sign I need to switch entirely to drinkIng champagne. Pop the cork!
Are microplastic our [Great Filter](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Filter)?
This is a bad study and should be removed as clickbait.
