It is absolutely wild for Iran to send missiles into another country like that. It doesn’t matter that they were aimed at a US military base or Embassy.
It’s still their airspace and their country that the bomb would be landing in. These countries already don’t like Iran very much to begin with.

Dumb question – but why do missiles / counter missiles appear to be floating or hovering? What’s the explanation?
All of the videos I’ve seen, they all appear to hover until they engage the target.

so the lights going upwards are easy enough to understand, but what are all the rest of the „hanging“ lights? incoming at an angle that makes it look like theyre just hanging there?

This is international stage posturing. They fired equal number of missiles to the number of bombs we dropped on their nuclear facilities. They also notified Qatar and the US. Qatar put out a strongly worded statement. US will decry and vow to punish the regime. Israel will continue a few more strikes and Iran will do a few more missile strikes. Israel has found out it cannot finish this on its own, needed US to jump in full blown. The American people are not happy about it and do not want to go to war with Iran. The „they have a nuke“ story to manufacture consent just didn’t sell like the „they have WMDs“ story.
So many lives lost, destruction, nothing productive really achieved, all to stroke the egos of madmen playing king.
