      „Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a Republican, pushed back on the Trump administration’s framing of the strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, saying it is „ludicrous“ to say they are not an act of war.

      „The notion that this isn’t an act of war, I find ludicrous,“ Massie said during an appearance on CNN. „This is a hot war. There are two nations, Israel and Iran, trading volleys of missiles every night, every day, and we’re a co-belligerent now in this war.“

      Massie also criticized President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson for not recalling the House of Representatives from their recess to discuss and approve the action, instead leaning on a „narrow window“ to act as an excuse to bypass Congress.

      „If there was an imminent threat, why not call us back from our recess,“ Massie said. „We were on recess last week, and I went to special effort to offer a war powers resolution while everybody was on vacation … if Speaker Johnson thought that America was in danger imminently, he should have brought us all back to Congress, yet he did not.“

      Massie also revealed 50 co-sponsors on his bipartisan bill aimed at limiting Trump’s wartime powers, which makes him confident he can force a floor vote unless the speaker „pulls some shenanigans.“

      „I think this was a bad move politically, but it’s also just a bad move legally and constitutionally and policy-wise,“ Massie said, adding that Trump „absolutely“ broke a campaign promise with this act.“

      The biggest take away is that the strikes weren’t successful, and even if they were the Iranians read TACO like a bad movie script and removed the important features of the lab (uranium).

      Now, according to NYT:

      > The Israeli military, in an initial analysis, believes the heavily fortified nuclear site at Fordo has sustained serious damage from the American strike on Sunday, *but has not been completely destroyed*, according to two Israeli officials with knowledge of the matter. The officials also said it appeared *Iran had moved equipment, including uranium, from the site.*

      So a quick recap:

      1. In a campaign promise-breaking and appalling decision, Trump decided to bomb Iran

      2. The *best case* scenario with that choice, is that the US 100% destroys the nuclear sites, AND Iran decides to look past being fucking bombed and just start negotiating again, with the nations actively bombing them.

      3. We *already* have evidence that the site was probably at least partially cleared before the bombing, AND that the bombing did *not* 100% destroy the nuclear sites.

      4. Additionally, Iran is now considering closing the straights that 1/5th of the world’s oil passes through.

      (Hope yall remember when there was major supply chain issues during covid, that lead to scarcity/inflation, cause now we’ll have to deal with that)

      What was risked? Full-on war, increased terrorism, potentially a world war.

      For a bombing run that will turn out to prove really not all that successful.

      Big brain stuff, and MAGA is over there pretending like “this is the only way to stop them from getting nukes.” No, we had that. Your Cheeto powder brained cult leader obliterated it in his first term and causes this current mess. So, to date, the only thing Trump has successfully obliterated with respect to Irans nuclear capacity is: the diplomacy that effectively prevented Iran from becoming a nuclear power. He also just incentivized them to pursue nukes even more because that would have prevented all this, for them.

      Unfortunately, a lot of Americans have been conditioned to think that acts like this don’t count as war. And if the other country responds, that counts as terrorism, then justifying future attacks from America that the American public considers as policing more than war.

      If China unilaterally flew military aircraft half way around the world and bombed three different nuclear sites inside the U.S. killing members of our military as well as scientists and researchers would the U.S. consider that an act of war?

      Why is it that Israel, who illegally have Nukes, is not being forced to give up their Nukes? If the U.S. can attack Iran over lies of Nukes, then China and Russia should bomb Israel, which we all know has Nukes. Remember when Kennedy tried to attack Cuba, and Russia came to their aid, ready to provide Nukes if the US did not step back. Will Russia or China have to do the same now to protect Iran?

      Will the American people allow Trump to enter us into another Middle East war, causing many American deaths, and like Iraq and Afghanistan, accomplishing nothing but death and wounded soldiers?

      If China or Russia do not get involved, then they will be handing not only Iran but the entire Middle East to the United States. Russia and China cannot sit on the sidelines. They have no choice but to enter the war, for they know if they allow the U.S. to take over the Middle East, their next move will be against them. When World War III starts, may the world remember that Donald Trump started it!

      If someone strikes one of our allies „pre-emptively“ then we’re all over the „self-defense“ narrative that allows our ally to bomb the aggressor back to the stone age. As a show of strength and unity. If however, that same ally is the one to strike „pre-emptively“ against another country then we’re like „sovereignty? What’s that? Sovereignty and self-defense are for our friends, not those other people.“

      It does beg the question, at what point does an airstrike/bombing mission constitute an act of war? Is it a matter of scale? The US has launched airstrikes on other nations without engaging in all-out war.

      It’s just interesting to me that Pearl Harbor was enough to bring us into WWII, but roughly 1,000+ men died in that attack and most of the fleet docked there was destroyed.
