Internationaler Student:

Doesn’t look like a scam but nevertheless you can call them and confirm and about the price seems a bit high but I’m not familiar with the accommodation prices in Hamburg maybe others can help
Not a scam, the Studierendenwerk is the „official“ accommodation that is funded/supported by the city. If you plan to study at the Tuhh, the Harburger Häuser will be probably the best accommodation for starting off.
Source: I lived the a student accommodation from the Studierendenwerk hamburg about 10 years ago. Price back then was approx 290€/month
In theory this could be legit, but you are right to be careful. A simple phone call could confirm if it is legit or not.
The Studierendenwerk is part of the university.
Why do you think the university is trying to scam you? That would be pretty strange.
Where are you planning to live during your exchange if not here?
It is a standard procedure for Studentenwerks to ask for rent and deposit payment beforehand. After receiving the payment, you will get all the documents and will need to make an appointment for room and keys handover. If you’re still sceptical, search on their website for respective contact persons or maybe even the person on the offer letter.
I haven’t lived in Hamburg personally, but I think it’s very unlikely that you’ll find cheaper accomodation in that city. Outside of student dorms it’s very rare to find furnished apartments in Germany.
STWHH is the legitimate website of the Hamburg student union, and a woman with that name does indeed work for them.
I would advice that you call the studentenwerk to confirm, and obtain the number from the official website, not the email.
Transfering to IBAN accounts do not confirm names, so the name may not match the account
If it’s real, better grab that asap, rental prices in Hamburg are very high
Please confirm once. Its interesting to me that they havent mention the room size.
The rent seems plausible for Hamburg.
Congratulations, you’ve got a place! Consider yourself lucky. I’ve heard of people not finding accommodation and struggling for months. The letter you got is authentic and it’s normal procedure. I suggest you accept the offer.
Seems legit. I had almost the same letter from Studierendenwerk Gıeßen. The upfront payment is legal and necessary to get your contract. SWG gave me the option to keep the apartment for one month with only 100 euro payment, which was deductable from the upfront deposit and rent payment. I used it and living in SWG housing since then. The rent seems like around 400 euros and it is a bargain in Hamburg. Just confirm it with a phone call if you have doubts and go for it.
Doesn’t seem fake, but it’s surprising that you were offered a room this quick. I registered back in May, and was told that the waiting list is at least for a year.
Very legit and fair prices. I went through the same process back in the day 10 years ago. Process hasn’t changed.
You are being offered furnished housing in Hamburg for 390 Euro, and you ask whether it is worth it?
Oh, sweet summer child.
Definitely!
Honestly, to me, you hit the jackpot.
I know, how much students pay for their out-of-Studierendenwerk accommodations in Munich. Most of them pay between 600 and 1000 per room. It’s not even unusual to see more. Some are really lucky and pay less.
Why is this written like a threat in a scam letter lol
For gods sake take this poor woman’s name out of your post. What a fucking violation. Now pretty much every web crawler can grab it.
You could have posts the same thing with the name not showing with just the domain.
If you know its an official letter and you dont get scammed by an indian, yes the prices are somewhat justified or normal
You won the lottery. Its real, not a scam
