China has accused Britain of “undermining peace” after a Royal Navy patrol vessel sailed through the strait separating the mainland from Taiwan, the self-ruling island that Beijing claims as its own.
“Troops in the theatre are on high alert at all times and will resolutely counter all threats and provocations,” warned a statement by the People’s Liberation Army, after the passage of HMS Spey on Wednesday.
The ship’s transit of the strait was a “freedom of navigation operation”, intended to assert the right to free passage through international waters. But Beijing angrily rejected Britain’s assertions that it was in line with international maritime law

Well if we don’t defend international maritime law then we undermine everything our economy is built on. Arguably China should be more interested in defending this.
