It’s leftist propaganda. Riikka Purra has never said this kind of stuff.

And it’s hilarious that the subliminal message of this propaganda picture is that white babies is a bad thing.

    2. It is more that they’re more frank than anything, but yes they’re a bit more racist than socialisty countries (like Sweden).

Also you have to be careful, Russia is currently doing a lot of campaigning to discredit Finland. I would also think the university would expel the students putting this up.

Living here for a tiny bit and being with a Finnish partner, my take is that most Finnish people don’t think about such things.

But I do also notice how trusting each other is engrained in the society and somehow a Finnish persons trusts a Finnish person more than any other race. I do think that’s kind of natural though.

From my experience most Finns are super open minded but some people can sort of be racist. For reference I’m of East Asian descent and I don’t even live in Finland, though I’ve been there multiple times and have a decently sized group of friends. There’s a bit of casual racism from some people for sure, and you do see some questionable graffiti, but with that being said it’s also home to some of the most open minded, loving and well rounded people I’ve ever met in any country.

I really don’t know what to say about this. I do love Finland and there is a lot of love that I get back from my Finnish friends and even random people I don’t really know, I’ve been met with so much kindness and have gotten to know so many incredible people who would do so much for you once you’re in the circles, but I would be lying to myself if I’ve never felt any sort of racism, and that’s in Helsinki.

A lot of Finnish women I have spoken to have said they don’t want to marry Finnish men either because of bad experiences with their father or bad experiences with an ex partner. So they prefer dating/having a relationship with people from other nations. Skin colour doesn’t really come into it. But they said that International men are better partners because they can control their alcohol consumption better, and they are better communicators, and more emotionally mature when it comes to being vulnerable, while still being „a man“.

Obviously this isn’t the rule across the board, just those I have spoken to on the topic.

You’ll be fine mate. All you need to do is mind your business and be a chill and approachable person. Most of the time these things are one off things and even if it happens just ignore them or tell the higher ups who deals with this stuff.

I think it’s meant to Be some kind of satire and/or irony. That lady who is crying is Riikka Purra. She is head of finns party, a far right party in finland

I highly doubt that any uni in Finland would intentionally post far right propaganda

Thats a false flag operation from the opposition. They like to play dirty.

    9. That seems to be a picture of Riikka Purra from a right wing party (currently in government), she seems quite racist whenever she opens her mouth and the whole party is a bit „Finland for thr Finns“ type.

So this is definitely nothing for you to worry, it’s a protest of sorts.

Well yes and no. Are there people how are racist on the color of the skin and just assholes. Yes, like everywhere, but not anyway prevelant I would say. As a university student even less, or way less! You should not worry at all as the proportion of international major students is really high in a lot of universities.

But then again I absolutely despise russia and so do 80% of finland, and they call it rascism and russophobia. So there is that.

Well there’s plenty of racism (where isn’t there?), but I don’t know where this pic is coming from.
As a student you’ll be fine, having kids in Finland is another story.
This coming from someone who has children with mixed nationalities and so far there’s been no issues. Well the occasional comment on how well they speak Finnish. But one of most racist people I know is their dad as an immigrant himself. So as I said, racism is everywhere.

    12. There are racist people in every country. They don’t define what the rest of the population thinks.

    13. The person in the poster is a far right politician. The poster is mocking her.

She has made some statements about how people shouldn’t adopt ‘exotic’ children, to solve the low birth rate in Finland. And that a good alternative is to adopt a Finnish dog instead. Implying that a Finnish dog is better than a non Finnish adopted child.

In general this is perfect example why it is so important to learn the Finnish language.

That is the only way being able to follow the news, learn the culture better, being able to pick up social cues etc. not to mention understanding what your electricity bill or lease contract says and other everyday stuff.

Glad you OP asked, and like several others have commented, this is anti-racism poster.

everywhere is racist, my guess is you’re so young and haven’t travelled (not as a tourist) much. USA is Racist, UK is Racist, Arab world is Racist, Black African areas are pretty Racist … humans are racist … except when your living at home
