I really feel bad for the 3 Liberal justices on the corrupt republican controlled supreme court bench. They have to write dissenting opinions on the most corrupt rulings in American history and are basically helpless to do anything about this corruption.
They have a front row legal seat to it all, and I feel sorry for them.
Conservative majority: When we like what the states are doing we leave it to the states. When we don’t like what the states are doing we take the decision away from them and make it federal. The actual constitution has no bearing in our thought process.
Here are my thoughts on this
1. I don’t really understand this double standard between hormone use for cisgender vs transgender kids. If puberty blockers or testosterone supplements are too dangerous for transgender kids under 18 to use, then they should also be considered too dangerous for cisgender kids under 18 to use.
2. Even if conservatives are exaggerating the dangers of these medications and applying a double standard to cis kids and trans kids (which they probably are), it’s kind of amazing that this is the one and only “youth rights” issues that liberals care about, given how much we already limit the other rights of minors.
Seriously, there are laws that basically bans parents from letting their kid walk more than about a block without parental supervision. And now there are also laws that ban minors from using practically the entire internet. I’m pretty sure that those things are less dangerous than “gender affirming care”, no matter how exaggerated the dangers of gender affirming care may be.
I hope sitting out the election over Gaza and Kamala’s laugh were worth it
At the same time, the Trump administration ends the LGBTQ+ suicide help line.
They are trying to kill people, but then again, the cruelty is the point.
GOP behavior is negative and disrespectful to all human beings.
Again, why is the government involved in medical care? It should be left to medical experts. Case closed.
It is crazy that religious freedom will allow a mohel to snipped and suck a infant boy’s penis, risking communicable diseases that can and have killed the boy, but a parent can not tend to their child’s mental health.

Stop being civil to these monster, Sotomayor. Don’t say things are professional and supportive there. You work with monsters. Say to them what the rest of us cannot. Tell them they are monsters.
When we only have three judges who vote with empathy and concern for trans minors, it disheartening that even “justice” is of a majority opinion that trans erasure is ok and even endorses it.

Those justices are NOT conservative. They’ve stopped using the constitution to affect their decisions. Their supposed religious beliefs hold more sway. (The rich have bought those justices, and therefore the decision)
It’s always interesting to read the actual opinions – it seems based on my first read that the opinion of the court and the dissent don’t disagree on the law really at all. Their disagreement is about if gender affirming care for trans and cis kids is the same or if they’re two different conditions that can be regulated separately.
The majority opinion is all about determining what level of scrutiny is appropriate for the law and doesn’t comment on the medicine, ethics, or wisdom of the law.
As always… Thomas and Alito are just trying to legislate their opinions from the bench and I haven’t gotten into Barret’s concurring opinion yet.

That’s what liberal justices should be writing.

Be prepared for maybe a couple generations of this. Elections have consequences and abstaining in 2024 means that when the time comes to nominate a new SCOTUS it will continue to be a conservative.
