How do you think the „MAGA civil war“ is going to shake out?
Do you have any thoughts of the ongoing election tampering lawsuit, where several NY counties had zero votes for Harris?
Mainly, if any of it is proven true, how does the anti Trump coalition even use that?
Is there any saving the republican party after Trump or is it too far gone?

COVID didn’t break Trump’s hold on the GOP
Nor did Charlottesville, nor J6, nor [insert long list of other disqualifying things]
I have long thought that 35% approval is the bottom for Trump, that’s the base.
With that in mind…
If his approval goes below (in more than one poll) 35% does the House and Senate start to care?
Is there anything outside of Trump supporters dying (see COVID) that would make them break?
Will America survive 4 years of Trump?
Because I think America will be a smouldering wreck by the time democrats can regain power in 2028.
With so many headlines speaking about the U.S. moving into an authoritarian regime, I imagine there is much more nuance than “the end of democracy.” What is the most likely outcome of this 4-yr period as far as the U.S. being a democracy?
What can the left do about the fact that the right seems to have taken control of the media? I mean short digestible steps, not lofty long term things like „end citizens united, reinstate the fairness doctrine.“ Sure, but how do we do that? What’s the next step in that direction that we can actually take that is also not prone to distraction?
Perhaps we should work towards the media being an independently elected fourth branch of government? Perhaps focus on local organizing? I don’t know but fighting money with money isn’t working, because they have all the money.
Is there any way to get the MSM to do more fact-checking of Trump, especially on a regular basis? He lies all the time, even just now, telling some whoppers at the „flag pole raising“ event. The questions are so pathetic.
Why won’t the MSM fact check him to his face and is there any way to push them to do it? Yes, he’s rude to people who ask things he doesn’t like, but so what? What are reporters so afraid of? He desperately needs to be fact-checked every day. Not these, „What do you think about….?“ kinds of questions all the time.
Do you think MAGA will survive if trump does bring us into war? I know a lot of the MAGA “influencers” will eventually bend the knee, but there are plenty that need that grifter income and their audience does not want war. What’s to come for MAGA?
if the republican party returned to what it was before trump, would you want to return to it, what changes would you want to see if it did return?
Do you feel that the current state of the Republican party was an evolution starting as far back as Nixon? I’m thinking of lines like „family values“, „law and order“, being against political correctness, attacking would-be candidates (think: Hillary), the distrust of mainstream media („news has a liberal bias“), believing in conspiracies (9-11 was an inside job, vaccines are the government spying on you), calling the left as elitist, pushing party values further right whenever the left (e.g., Clinton-Gore) moved right until it’s no longer ideological but a cult of personality, backed by politicians who are scared to lose their jobs and kowtow to the orange man.
What is the actual endgame for Trump? What are the GOP trying to accomplish because all it seems like they’re doing is make working class peoples lives harder, especially marginalized groups.
For those of us feeling dispirited that nothing we do can matters when MAGA automatically rejects any information from outside their ecosystem, what the hell can we do to contribute here?
Tim, how worried should we be about the appeals panel for Newsom’s case against Trump deploying the California national guard without approval from Newsom? The article i read from Politico yesterday ([Newsom vs Trump admin](https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/17/appeals-court-trump-newsom-national-guard-00411536)) is alluding to the appeals panel siding with Trump due to previous precedents among other things. Obviously Newsom can appeal to a higher court but if Trump gets a favorable ruling, do we think this will embolden him more to deploy active military into other cities in other states?

How did you miss the signs of the Trump Maga base in the republican party while working in it? It seemsled obvious from talking to rank and file Republicans that Maga values were core republican values?

When did you first realize the GOP was something you needed to actively oppose? Because a lot of us have felt this way since the 1980s.
Hey Tim, I was wondering if you think anything can be done to counter the fact that MAGA and MAGA-adjacent figures seemingly dominate the political podcast sphere given that podcasts are a much more widespread vector for news/politics among the younger generations.
Also, I giggle every time you call him Secretary Nutlick, so please keep doing that.
-What do you think makes you and your colleagues at The Bulwark different from Lil‘ Marco and the others that have sold their souls to Trump’s GOP? And how does your answer now, in the midst of Trump 2.0, compare to what your answer might have been when your book was newly published?
-What do you think of the notion that part of the Christian Nationalist efforts to dismantle the government services that help the most needy among us is an attempt to put those services in the hands of religious organizations? The idea being that it is part of their Christian duty to others…but the caveat would be that the beliefs or characteristics of an individual in need of help might mean the organization they go to denies them that help. Essentially, „act the way we want or we won’t help you.“

Subscriber and huge fan here. There is a lot of talk about Dem’s ‚Bro‘ problems. While I understand there are obvious things Dems can do better, I think the Bro’s themselves are a bit of a problem. It seems like the bro’s political wishlist is often cruel, unserious or just downright dumb. „I want online dating to not suck“ or „I just want to be able to talk about tits and say bitch and pussy again!“ just isn’t serious politics, and yet the demographic that approaches politics in this way has serious sway over electoral outcomes. Voters are no longer motivated by policy, they’re motivated by cultural issues. How do the Dems win back these voters that are motivated by cutural stances that completey misalign with Democratic and often times American values?

My question is should never Trumper’s look to form a new party instead of joining the Democrats which is not a short term or even long-term solution given many on the progressive left already view the democratic party as going further right- and there is a fair argument that the Democrats today are the Republic party of yesterday- as of right now it seems most never Trumper’s are just ‚independents‘ or simply retired and more of less gave up and let’s be honest no former Republican is going to have any chance to win the Democratic nomination- looking at you Adam Kinzinger- or should they actually try to fight to retake the Republican party back?
To me this is the same issue the Democrats are facing in their own party. Attempt to reform or accept it’s too far gone and create something new.
I don’t see either party as a solution. The Republican party of Lincoln was new and replaced the old Whig party. There is no reason to believe that something new can’t form that could unify the country and draw people from both sides.
