Good…the system can’t handle any more people right now. Now let’s figure out how to incentivize the birth rate over the longer term.

„The population growth in Canada during the first quarter was driven completely by international migration, Statistics Canada says, because there were more deaths than births of Canadians.“

    3. Its needed short term

It will take a few years to fix the mess the trudeau era had on immigration

Many have come cant get jobs and falling into poverty

If things stay clam hopefully it gives people.chance to do better

    4. Growth by Province…. Ontario numbers are brutal

      Manitoba: 3307

      Saskatchewan: 2660

      New Brunswick: 876

      Nova Scotia: 791

      PEI: 749

      Newfoundland and Labrador: -115

      Quebec: -1013

      British Columbia: -2357

      Ontario: -5664

    5. I was at Costco yesterday and I saw the price of formula. It was absolutely insane compared to 5 years ago.

I know people in Durham that can’t find daycare because they are all over capacity. The $10 a day deal doesn;t work if there are no spots.

As expected, it turns out the entire 800K a year based on gross PRs + gross visas given out turns out to be a simple counting error. It’s just incredible to me how common just misquoting stats are from  online arguments to “papers” like Breach Media (who somehow manage to undercount population growth by 10x than what StatsCan says) to Rebel News (who also make shit up but just in the other direction)

StatsCan publishes open access datasets   every quarter, go look them up instead of just making numbers up

We know why people aren’t having kids but no government on any level is willing to put meaningful effort to fix these issues.

Most, if not all these reasons will only become larger problems and will affect everyone if they aren’t addressed sooner rather than later. It’s not kicking a can down the road between 4 year terms, it’s kicking a boulder with your bare foot down the road and breaking your foot more with each kick.

    8. It’s a relatively easy solution. Incentivize domestic births and discourage immigration. I can name at least 15 women in my friend group who desperately want children but can’t afford it.
