For context, this is the criminal organization with ties to the Modi government and which was behind the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and threats on Jagmeet Singh’s life. The timing of this statement with Modi in Canada for the G7 is likely not a coincidence.
It’s concerning that in regard to investigate properly any criminal organizations we have to label them a threat to national security or nothing can be done.
The world’s major powers have all leaned authoritarian. The federal government needs time to further align with other western democracies without entirely alienating current trading partners.
Eby’s position is an easy one to take because he can stand on the moral high ground without having to work through real-world consequences.
