Writing for *The Free Press*, historian [Andrew Roberts](https://www.hoover.org/profiles/andrew-roberts) reflects on moments in history when preemptive military strikes proved to be worthwhile. Like the British bombing of the French Fleet in Algeria in 1940, or the Israeli bombing of Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981, Roberts argues that President Trump now faces a “Churchillian” decision-making moment. Only the U.S Air Force possesses the massive munitions that can destroy Iran’s underground centrifuges. “The United States has never had such an opportunity to rid the world of a specter that has haunted the Middle East for decades, and possibly might not again,” Roberts writes.
With that tile, this isn’t even worth a read. The premise that Iran offers to the US any sort of threat comparable to what Germany did to the UK in the 30s-40s is simply laughable.
Just another war mongering clickbait article. Besides, truly offensive to compare Trump to Churchill, who despite being a deeply flawed individual, was at his worst drunken moments immensely more brave and sound than Trump is at his best.
American media and thinktanks are incapable of critically looking at the policy of their administration.
All they can do at this point is to find more and more convoluted ways to explain the nonsense and absurdity of what is happening.
„Churchillian Choice“? Why not compare it to a lot less distant choice that Bush had to make with Iraqi WMD?

Yeah, and because it taught us this valuable lesson – Trump is appeasing Russia 24/7 over the last 6 months.
Whatever this is – this has nothing to do with dictators and their threats.
A lot of Americans probably have a kind of phobia when it comes to wars that feel unnecessary, but what’s happening with Iran is the complete opposite. It would barely even count as a war at this point since Israel has already dismantled major parts of their military and basically cleared the path for the US to step in and finish the job.
There’s way more for America and the western world to gain than to lose by taking action against Iran, and people who think otherwise just don’t get how serious the threat of a nuclear Iran will be in a few years (and I’m not just talking about the threat to Israel, which they call the little satan, I’m talking about the US, which they openly call the big satan).
Iran has been the root of many problems and a major player in spreading terrorism over the last couple of decades, and it’s time for that to stop.
