They are going to try to both sides it for as long as they can because money is the most important thing to them.

Billionaires who control our media hate resistance to their plan.

„The revolution will not be televised.“

At the end of the day, CIA, FBI, DHS agents, police officers, and military personnel make up about 11% of a US population of 330,000,000, and EVERY single one of them would have to be compliant to the Trump Administration.

Billionaires make up .0000003% of the population and yet the top three wealthiest individuals own more wealth than the bottom 50% of our population, and the wealth gap has only become worse since the pandemic and further inflation costs.

They are afraid of lawsuits. Cowards, considering they are literally protected by the Constitution.

If we cared about what was good for us we would be protesting and boycotting media outlets who sanewash this administration.

The media is owned by the republican corporations and wants to talk about Trump

    6. my_favorite_toe on

Because big media is owned by billionaires who do not want the growing resistance to catch on

    7. The media is cashing in on Trump. The protest area in LA is a speck on the map compared to the overall size of the city but the way the media is covering it combined with Trump’s bonkers rhetoric makes it look like the whole city is burning. When the city was actually burning from wildfires Trump did nothing. When one road got blocked by protesters Trump sent in the National Guard and the Marines. People need to wake up.

    8. Because the people who own the media support him and only care about profits.

    9. The Guardian was covering it back in April. Screw the rest of American media.

    10. They took Kendrick Lamar saying the revolution will not be televised to heart :p

    11. Describing_Donkeys on

Promote media that isn’t ignoring it. If they don’t want to describe reality, they shouldn’t be a source.

    12. Because the media are privately owned by the same oligarchs that supported and/or orchestrated this coup.

It’s a war of the super rich against everyone else, it’s the Titanic moment of the sinking American economy – the rich have locked the door to the lower decks and now are scrambling for the limited seats in the lifeboats.

    13. Because almost all of these protests are explicitly non-confrontational and uneventful so they don’t drive clicks.

Evil often operates on much more mundane logic than we’d like to think.

That product doesn’t sell. They don’t actually care about the news or their duty.

Fear of the Dictator. The very billionaires that donated to Trump’s campaign fear his retribution for free speech and cower to him because of lawsuits. So, they rid themselves of all those that are not sycophants. It’s how authoritarians control the population – by controlling the media and the message.

MSM will go down in history as the one’s responsible for the destruction of democracy in the US. In 4 years nobody will know what the truth is or trust any organization that tries to tell them. Again, another goal of authoritarians.

The handwriting is on the wall and the „poorly educated“ that Donald Trump so loves will wish they read up on past/present history just a little more. Authoritarians don’t care about those without billions.

Edits to correct typing errors – I’m in need of new glasses.

Because the media is a part of the corporate greed system and they make money the more they ruin this world just like all corporations.

    17. FreshRest4945 on

Because the 8 corporations that control 90% of all our major media companies are themselves controlled by right wing conservative billionaires.

The reporters get there marching orders from there editors, who get there marching orders from conservative executives, who have to appease the conservative billionaires. It’s no mystery that every media platform is this way or that we have rampant propaganda in this country.

    18. Because it’s called ***Manufacturing Consent.*** Republican/Right-Wing/Conservative support is ALWAYS over inflated by „The Media“ which is why it’s hilarious when people say the Main Stream Media is „Left“. It’s absolutely hilarious and adorable. The MSM always uses Right-Wing framing on topics and bends over backwards to „both sides“ everything and make false equivalencies.

    19. They are complicit. As someone who lives outside your country I have noticed your news sources are very biased. I noticed they where leaving out key details that I was finding out through other news sources. The police for example are reported to not be using violence on citizens. This is utter bullshit. The police have been perpetrating violence against the people. I have seen multiple videos displaying as such. The more I see the more it looks like they are on the wrong side of this. But if I watch CNN it’s downplayed and then they play stories about trump renaming military forts like that isn’t anything more than a distraction. The media lies.

    20. NeverLookBothWays on

If you heard of „regulatory capture“ before, this is actually a similar situation but at a higher level and the result of multiple legislative coups Republicans have committed to get there. The Trump administration has now established itself into a position where it can cause incredible harm to any outlet that defies the MAGA narrative. This harm is also immediate enough to where it is impossible for courts to really keep up and prevent the damage from being permanent.

So, in essence, our press (namely our domestic press) is effectively captured and neutered. They want to stay in operation, and like any business doing risk analysis, in order to stay in operation risks must be reduced. Defying Trump presents a significant risk to these corporations and their shareholders, so they toe the line for the most part. There is some resistance, for example Maddow, but it’s compartmentalized and siloed off.

This is not just the media, it is pretty much every business operating in the United States that could pose a risk to Trump’s grasp on power. The more of a risk you are, the higher the chances Trump will single you out and try to destroy you.

The tragedy here is this is a complete departure from the morally right thing to do in this scenario, which is resist and fight back against fascism at all costs. As a result, we must accept that the media are not our allies….they are not our friends. But they may side with us if we create a scenario where the risk of their own destruction is removed. If and when we create an environment where we „hold the cards“ this can all shift dramatically. Of course FOXNews will continue to be FOXNews.

Simple. The companies owners.   They want to be in bed with trump so they can do whatever and get tons of handouts and benefits from trumps administration

    22. no-snoots-unbooped on

Media is complicit in this shit show because Trump generates clicks and views and gets eyeballs on TVs and that’s what they care about.

They reap the rewards of a divided and outraged public, and Trump is exceedingly good at fomenting division and outrage.

Journalism with integrity is disappearing fast which is one of the reasons we are backsliding so much.

    23. Capital. It’s always capital. When you have just a couple of people who have more than almost everyone else combined, it means that those few people have more power than us all. They control what you buy, what you see and hear online, etc. it is the main problem.

    24. teddytwelvetoes on

lol the media personally helped get us here by propping up this random trust fund dipshit for no apparent reason for several decades. remember when they called him for his thoughts after 9/11 like the Ja Rule Chappelle bit? remember when we gave him a whole television series dedicated to his businessman cosplay? etc., etc., etc.

    25. pianoavengers on

Because the concept of independent, unbiased media no longer exists. I come from a time before social media, when media was simply news. „On this day, this person did this, or that nation spoke with that nation.“ Now, it’s all clickbait, rage bait, and active accomplices in escalating everything.

    26. Most-Artichoke6184 on

Because the media did their level best to help elect Trump. They hated boring old Joe Biden, who didn’t cause a crisis every single day.

Sinclair is the largest owner of stations that are affiliated with Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, MyNetworkTV, The CW, and The CW Plus.

The media is owned by billionaires at this point.

    28. The owners don’t want us using the platforms they bought to control us to be used against them.

    29. HugoStiglitz1981 on

Because they are afraid of losing their jobs if they report accurately on him. It’s why I have given up on all forms of mainstream media. I hope when Trump is gone that everyone doesn’t forget how useless they were in this historical time.

    30. RoyalRobinBanks on

Because the billionaires who own corporate media are the ones who benefit from his fuckary.
