She’s still terrible (not Emma Watson level bad) but bad. She won that Oscar nomination because she has great taste in scripts and the directors she works with sometimes squeeze a decent performance out of her.
It’s only confusing if you see the general public as a monolithic being…
Was she a terrible actress in Pirates? I may have been 10 when I first saw it but I know I’ve seen it since and thought she did good.

She was in Bend it Like Beckham before Pirates. And she did get to do some acting in that, unlike Pirates.
