Well, duh. Stop allowing them to develop projects that do not make sense in the 21st century!
Forget about the environment for a second: They’re losing revenues because it makes ZERO economic sense for Canada to develop coal in 2025!
Some thoughts:
More people need to hammer Smith for her statements about „preserving the views of the Rockies“ when she gutted the wind power industry, it’s pure hypocrisy to say that and then push for companies to hollow-out these same mountains.
Folks critical of coal development should also understand that this is high-value metallurgical coal for steel making, not thermal coal for power generation. If you’re using anything containing steel today, that was produced in a blast furnace at some point with coke from metallurgical coal. We send most of this to China’s steel industry, but we do have plenty of steel making capacity in Eastern Canada. There are developing alternatives to using coke, but they are not fully fleshed out on an industrial scale.
Has Danielle Smith already taken bribes for these mines? Is that why they ‚must‘ go ahead and she is personally involved?
Danielle Smith is okay with shutting down other industries entirely. She loves picking winners and losers. Why does coal need to be a winner for her?
Its nuts that our governments only priority is courting foreign billionaires. Lapdogs for oligarchs. Willing to sacrifice Albertans health and our clean water for people who dont even live here.
