Somehow I doubt sending Ukraine our shitty wk-180s and hot pink 22lrs will do any good.
The entire confiscation/buyback is a hot mess and our current public safety minister appears to know even less about it.
No country in the middle of a shooting war wants a pile of unsorted, non-military firearms of unknown and untested quality, scores of different ammunition types with no follow up access to parts or ammo being necessarily possible. Especially where any rifle capable of being used in a military operation has been specially modified to no longer be useful in that context.
Rod Giltaca is right: This was never a serious proposal capable of implementation, and was frankly embarrassing for us as a country to have said it out loud.
In war, the main combat rifles and small arms used need to be mostly uniform to keep logistics and training manageable. Nobody wants to command or be in the platoon with 10 different rifles each with different ranges, magazine depths, levels of accuracy, weight and, of course, ammo types. That’s a nightmare for coordination and reaction in battlefield conditions.
I can’t imagine anyone is surprised by this. I would be surprised if any guns ever make it to Ukraine. It was a clearly silly and cynical proposition from the get go. Small arms are probably the last thing they need now, let alone the semi-auto civilian rifles and .22 plinksters that were banned.
Good, the Ukrainians don’t want fucking hunting rifles. It was a genuinely insulting idea.
I’m thoroughly disappointed that a self-proclaimed “pragmatic” government isn’t willing to jettison the Trudeau-era firearm policies. I get that it plays well with suburban moms, but it’s a massive expense that benefits nobody.
They couldn’t even manage the buy back portion of this failed policy. You’d think writing the cheques would be the easiest part.
Because the banned guns aren’t weapons of war despite the amazing effort the liberals have tried to make them sound like 🤣
This was peak Trudeau nonsense policy based on vibes and division.
Goal was to appeal to urban progressives demonize legal canadian gun holders and rural folks.
And then make critique of the policy being anti ukraine as an added bonus to show opponents are pro Russian

What is the point of this whole stupid thing? A gun buyback that practically nobody wants and the guns aren’t even going to UKR? Why waste time and money like that
Do they have any other pictures of someone holding an AR style rifle? Every time there’s a buyback related story they use it. Surely someone else will let you photograph their torso+rifle.
