A soldier getting killed by a banana tree is not something I had in my bingo card
crazy cameraman tracking combatants in the jungle.
Jocko interviewed former SOG operator Dick Thompson a while back and he tells a story about getting jumped while over the fence and rolling down a hill, dismembering the attacker with his knife and all of his hand to hand skills. Embarrassingly enough it was a weak banana tree that had fell and ambushed him. Crazy watching this video after hearing that story told so many times on repeat listens.

Dude was not running that fast, he hits the tree running normally body first, the tree is clearly very fragile… how he would break his NECK in this situation?

Edit: Jokes aside, I think some skepticism should be applied here as this shouldn’t be all that is necessary to corroborate the claim.
I remember this incident having one casualty on the Cambodian side. Is this really how that result came to be? I’m in utter disbelief. Imagine this is how you have to realize you died.

That tree didn’t seem like the kind of tree or impact that would break someone’s neck
its certainly possible, but not much to go on other than seeing a collision and that he doesn’t get up for several seconds
