Newsom should just order the guard troops back to their bases, saying that Trump’s federalization is an illegal order.
Trump doesn’t legally have control. He hasn’t invoked the Insurrection Act this he cannot federalize the Guard. Newsom’s just too chicken to challenge him.

Since we live in the realm of insanity now Newsom should deploy the National Guard to stand guard against the National Guard Trump is deploying.

It’s a clumsy bait, but I think he overestimates his sway over the military. If you are nearby, don’t engage with the national guard. There is a risk they have orders to provoke to then shoor on sight.
