Honestly, there was a time when I thought he would have been a great Prime Minister if he really went for it. Wish he did when he had the chance; he would have probably been a great PM.
RIP. Among other things, Capt(N) ret’d Garneau was by far the most famous graduate of my alma mater and most famous former combat systems engineer by many miles.
He was a Canadian legend and it is very sad that he has left us so soon. Fair winds and following seas.
For one semester in the 80’s I went to Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. I knew his story because of that. He seemed a nice fellow, I am sad he’s gone.
His named in etched into the history of this country as the first Canadian in space. A Canadian hero if there ever was one.
On a personal note, I did a BA undergrad in Law at Carleton way back in the day and about 5 years ago I realized I actually had his signature on my honors degree because he was the Chancellor at the time. It’s hanging behind glass in my office as we speak.
Very sad news. I remember when he was on the Challenger space shuttle in the 1980s.
