As a person who actually lives in London this is a good thing. Simply because cars are pretty much useless around central London when the tube can get you there infinitely quicker. As well as cycling overtaking car use around the capital.

As if anyone other than the rich could afford to pay the current fee anyway. We’re heading for a society where only the wealthy can do things like drive.
Someone who needs a car to pick up kids, elderly, disabled or sick and work. Just got kicked again.
In these grim times, not everyday do you hear such excellent news.
I can see the Facebook pages for places miles away from London lighting up about how ULEZ is killing London and Khan is the worst thing to happen to the city, them and their family (it’s never CC that’s mentioned, because they don’t know what it is as the Facebook pages they follow don’t divulge these details).
Posts made by people like John, 63, from Saffron Walden, who claims he can’t drive his car to London and how Khan is anti-car, and wants to take it away.
Note: he’s never driven to London, only ever goes for the theatre once a year (if that), only goes by train or a Readers travel coach trip, and his car he has on finance from last year is ULEZ compliant anyway, and the one he’ll get to replace it in a year’s time will also be compliant. He doesn’t know what the Congestion Charge is and assumes it’s ULEZ by another name.
The people that don’t live in London but have a “I have to drive everywhere because my knees are bad” argument are going to be out in force.
It’s just another form of tax under the guise of pushing people towards public transport & lowering emissions.
This whole emissions thing is pointless when countries like India & China refuse to comply and besides, not everyone wants to go on hot public transport with a bunch of people spreading illness‘ everywhere.
Everything’s too expensive now, and now they’re increasing all kinds of taxes.

As someone who doesn’t drive (just yet), this doesn’t really make a big difference to me personally but genuinely curious; what do disabled or less mobile people do if taking the tube/train is significantly harder than going by car?
My tube fare increases year on year so why should roads (which my taxes pay for despite me not driving) not be subject to the same treatment?
Makes sense they want to encourage people to commute to London by public transport and not drive. Oh wait £70 for a return train ticket to London dammit. Atleast I use my fake under 30 ID to get a cheaper train pass that’s £45 a day which is still a rip off and I only commute once a week. But the trian prices have basically locked me out of London jobs that require me to commute more than 2 days a week.
