Gripens, Gripens, Gripens!!

Right now, the Gripen is the most realistic and ideal option for us. There’s no backlog, unlike the Rafale, which is expensive and heavily backordered, or the Eurofighter, which would be a diplomatic and logistical nightmare to acquire. The F-35 is simply off the table due to our CSTO alignment and a huge European backlog, and the UK, France, and Italy are focused on their domestic programs. That leaves us with the Gripen, a fighter specifically designed for situations like ours. We need to get them while there’s no backlog, soon all Europeans will want it, and as of today Sweden is a bit desperate to sell them.

It’s affordable, easy to maintain, highly flexible, and can be operated even by 18-year-olds with proper training. It doesn’t require specialized infrastructure, it can take off from virtually any paved surface. It’s also interoperable with a wide range of modern tech and weapons systems. In simulated combat, it has gone up against the USAF and won multiple times. It’s fast, smart, reliable, and exactly what we need.

In addition to the Gripen, we should also pursue used F-16s, if the U.S. permits it, and upgrade our Su-30s with Indian assistance. Strengthening our air defense systems and intelligence sharing with India on enemy air activity is critical. We must also ensure we have a credible SRBM capability to target and disable as much of their aerial and civil infrastructure as possible early in a conflict.

Yes, acquiring these capabilities will take time for the enemy, but not as much time as it would take for us to secure an alternative through complicated and uncertain diplomacy.

Finally, we must isolate them diplomatically. The enemy is not a superpower. If we can secure broad international agreement that war must be avoided, then war can be prevented. We must act decisively, politically, diplomatically, and militarily.
