Been to this service station and it’s superb. It’s built into a mound of soil (or the soil was placed on top) and looks like a grassy bank with big glass windows either end. I believe it’s part nature reserve. Food is good, and local, as well. I took a few photos, I was that impressed.
It’s like a barrow tomb, but with interesting shops and food.
Let’s face it most motorway services are identical, cut from a pattern of shops.
It is very good.
But if you just want a lucozade and a yorkie you’re in for a bad time.
It’s nice. It has a duck pond and everything. If I remember right the grassy roof used to have goats on it, but I might be thinking of somewhere else lol.
Shame for Gloucester residents who never get to experience it!
Absolutely deserved. What a great service station, definitely beats the usual cut and paste overpriced shops/cafes/reaustraunts in all the other service stations.
Weird and completely pointless anecdote I will share nonetheless
I was in the services the day Oasis tickets came out. It was slightly surreal to stand in the queue for the (very nice) food and see every single person had Ticketmaster open on their phones. Must have been almost a thousand people in there, and at least 800 of them were staring at their phones for those tickets
Can confirm, very nice services. And I got tickets.
It’s good if you like paying £7 for a local „Tango“.

Best service stations are the national trust parks, providing you are a member.
Cafes, nice dog walks, and free from non-members 🙂
Are the disabled and elderly made to go the max distance possible to the toilet? If no, it may have a claim.
Tebay for me will always be champion, but that may be rose tinted goggles of childhood drives up to Aberdeen.
There’s also a super posh quasi service station somewhere south of Inverness, that’s more of a countryside store, but is absolutely wild. I remember my wife and I rocking in in trackies and trainers ahead of a long drive, and the clientele did not appreciate our presence
Had a few work trips from Plymouth to Scotland recently and it’s been Gloucester/Tebay/Cairn Lodge.
Nice service station but everything is complete rip off. The fuel stands at £1.70 a litre for petrol. When petrol stations in south end of Gloucester are £1.25
I refuse to believe anything tops Tebay. I’m going there for 2 weeks this summer.
It is extremely middle class, the lack of fried chicken and haribou puts off everyone else.
Better have your wallet ready. I thought the whole idea of a farm shop ment that it cuts out the supply chain hence cheaper prices, and encouraging us to shop local?

We actually make sure we avoid this one on our way down to Bristol. It’s basically just an expensive farm shop.
Fully agree. It’s on the way on a 3-hour drive to my wife’s hometown, and it’s the only thing about the drive (and visit) which I enjoy. I insist on stopping there every time 😆
I didn’t like it much when I saw flies walking all over the exposed cakes etc.
It’s nice buts it’s basically like a farm shop turned into a service station. So you better be ready to spend some cash if you want just a few things.
Contrary to the seemingly consensus opinion i cant stand the place.
Despite their image almost everything in there is overpriced, sugar laden, over processed crap. Its just junk not food.
I asked the ‘butcher’ there once if the lamb was organic. His reply was ‘as it runs around all day outside how much more organic does it get?’ Which told me pretty much everything i needed to know about their attitude towards their food and their (lack of) knowledge about it.
When I had a car I only really drove up the M1 and M6 and Welcome Break Oxford was my favourite. Also there’s an even nicer one on the M11 near Stansted on the way to Cambridge.
Always used to avoid the Moto and Extra ones like the plague.
It’s my favs station, honestly wish all service stations have what they have
No interior photos? Sure, the Telly Tubby design element is cool but I’m gonna need more visual proof.
