Its a zero sum game and we are going negative.
All major powers in history used education as a way to spread and sustain influence. It won’t take long for the US to find out that doing business is much harder if you have no influence.
I guess they’re really trying to attract top talent from around the world.
Well that makes sense. Someone said they didn’t want their lunch of course someone else is going to eat it.
It’s basically free soft power to do this. China understands the game. America, apparently, does not.
This comes right after China agreed to pay the $500 million the US decided not to give WHO. The US is becoming more irrelevant by the day and China is just letting it happen. They’ve got to be shocked at the US self-destructing with all of these unforced errors.

America is basically Russia – a corrupt dictatorship ultimately run by oligarchy for the oligarchy with a lot of nukes and poor people, but otherwise irrelevant on the global stage.

Ok, ok, ok. So, apart from pushing talented students out, and pushing scientists out, and undermining the economy, and turning allies against the U.S., and supporting dictators, and undermining he free press, and undermining the courts……. what has Trump ever done wrong?
I can’t tell if he’s a Russian asset, a Chinese one or both.

The US has until now been able to suck in most of the world’s talent by being very open to international students.
The amount of effective brain drain that’s going to happen now is going to cost the US for decades.
Who could have predicted that anti-intellectualism in the United States would open the door to a massive brain drain that benefits our geopolitical foes?
This all feels by design.
Nothing says „winning“ more than giving an entire generation of business, law, medical, and economics students to our biggest rival. /s
China has been really coming at the US’s place in the world hard since Trump start his trade war with them. It’s been kinda funny to watch.
As much as I dislike Harvard, (being in RnD research I deal with a lot of insufferable Harvard alumni), we can’t let the world’s most prestigious university fall to blatant exploitation and political weaponization.
This doesn’t help anyone but Trump.
And the excuse? Antisemitism? If I were Jewish I would be *livid* knowing this admin is trotting out my religion as an excuse to attack academia. This is the sort of shit that turns stomachs and minds against Israel. Stay the fuck out of my politics, my universities and my media.
Theee things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.
Locking the world’s best and brightest out of furthering their education will only drive them to other places. This administration is doing everything to keep people stupid and uneducated and it’s going to backfire and have consequences for decades to come.

I don’t see a lot of potential Harvard grads being willing to take up this offer, but if a similarly prestigious international institution (e.g. Oxford or Cambridge) made this offer, I could totally see a lot of international students shift over.

I feel like we are on a road to having some country expel all American international students.
