    1. This is the „small government“ and „free market“ that maga scum cheers

    2. His idea of what a President of the US is meant to do in office is at the very least novel, when not grifting.

    3. livelaughoral on

He’s trying to get AAPL to drop so he and his buds can snap it up for nothing.

If any democrats did this Republicans would be clamoring for impeachment.

    5. Trump does not want iPhones to be made in US. He wants a bribe.

When he names a company it means “give me money”.

    6. Alive_kiwi_7001 on

Someone has told him Apple has big margins so he’s basically just treating this as a company-specific tax, or tribute.

    7. Everyone knows this is a retaliation for Apple not bending the knee to Trump’s anti-DEI push.

    8. Market manipulation… this is just so crazy that he has such unilateral power to basically destroy the market at any point in time.

I am sure he told his good friends that he was going to say this and there was some heavy buys in puts for today…

    9. They would cost double if made in the US, and it would take 3 years to build the factory.

Well, an iPhone made in the USA will be a lot more expensive than one made in China or India with a 25% tariff, and it’ll take at least 5 years to get a factory set up, as if that’ll happen.

      Good plan.

Make stocks go lower by threatening tariffs, buy stocks. Make stocks go higher by lifting the threat of tariffs, sell stocks.

Trump logic: « I’ll give you 30 days to move your production to the US »

    13. American’s want to BUY iPhones not BUILD iPhones. Can’t have your cake and eat it too Mr. President.

    14. The U.S. Constitution, specifically Article I, Section 9, Clause 3, prohibits Congress(or in this case the President since he’s using Congress‘ power) from passing bills of attainder.

I mean it would be hilarious if Trump’s ego accidentally broke the monopoly of Apple.

    16. Aren’t conditions at these factories in China so deplorable they needed to install anti-suicide nets because their workers were offing themselves so frequently?

And that’s what the GOP wants for us…?

      “MAGA!” -Cultists

    17. Tim Cook donated $1 million to the Trump inauguration btw. That’s how it goes with extortion. You pay once, you pay forever.

    18. So here’s this career criminal telling other companies how to run their businesses. Let’s not forget that they’ve probably already invested millions, or billions, but this moron gives zero fux because when he spews stupid ass ideas…he needs people to listen and do what he says or he punishes the shit out of them.

This friggin idiot really is just a giant god damned train wreck.

    19. Interesting. So Trump now believes the government should control the means of production.

So exactly when did the GOP become communist?

The only iPhones that could possibly be made here would be the oldest models since TSMC only makes 3-4 gens behind in their US fab and the price would be so much no one would buy them.

    21. _skimbleshanks_ on

How did the modern conservative party go from clutching pearls at government telling a company only that they cannot dump raw industrial waste into a nearby river, to cheerleading one person in government dictating how, when and where a company can run its business at all, with zero oversight whatsoever?

    22. I was sincerely unaware he could place tariffs on specific individual companies.

    23. fleshlessmetalpiston on

This fucking idiot thinks an iPhone factory can just be whipped up instantly. Like it wouldn’t take a complete reshoring of manufacturing that they’ve been offshoreing for fifty years now. Like come on, who is this fucking stupid. It would take at least a decade to get to that point.

It’s not stupidity, it’s just greed. Although Trump is dumb as a bag of hammers.

    24. DVRavenTsuki on

Anyone else get the feeling the price increase would be more than 25% if they were made in the US?
