Voyager 1 is still talking to Earth and doing science 45 years after launch, even though its attitude control system is sending back random, impossible data about where it’s pointing. Engineers think the system itself is still working – they just can’t trust its readouts – so they may fix it with a software update or switch to a backup unit.
