America has proven to be a threat to Canada and the world. At the very best, America is a mentally ill neighbor who refuses to stay on their meds. It would be very foolish to just forget when a mentally ill toddler is at the helm.
What’s irksome about this is that’s there’s no self awareness the visit is in response to their aggressive behaviour, nor is there any “sorry, we didn’t mean to upset”. His comments are all low key insulting

We’re choosing to send a message this way because your President decided to be completely ignorant of the message the entire country was sending to him for the last 5 months. Carney does not need to call anybody – your President needs to start learning some basic decency and respect for others.
Can’t we demand embassy staff change if they represent a threat to the country even it’s overwhelming incompetence?

We could have sent someone to Washington to kick Trump right in the brisket, but this seemed much more dignified, so…
Who is this guy? He comes to our country and tells us what we can and can not say in the house of commons. What next? Is he going to tell Canadian what to say, when to say it?
This guy is an absolute blow hard. Its no wonder Trump picked him. Hes tone deaf and can’t read the room. Or worse, he can and is wilfully ignorant.

Trump isn’t talking about it until he is again. He’s proven he’s unreliable and prone to change his mind, so there’s really no reason to have any goodwill towards the American government because they’ve given zero reason for us to give it to them.
This guy’s a jerk and is a poor representative of Americans. Or maybe is a good one, but whatever he is he can go pound sand.

First, the „move on“ shit is the language of abusers. „Just forget about that horrible thing I did to you, I’m not doing it anymore, why are you being mean to me?“
Second, the annexation threats were supposedly about increasing America’s prosperity etc. There’s no guarantee they won’t come back.

For fucks sake. The only reason we’re having these talks is because the US imposed blanket tariffs to:
1. Balance the trade deficit that no one in this administration seems to understand.
2. Fix the border which does have a porosity problem, only in the opposite direction than what they believe.
3. To force us to accept annexation.
How about the Americans tell us what they actually want instead of beating around the bush and hoping we kowtow?

The Americans are worried about their frayed relationship with us. Hoekstra has done a couple of interviews here now, and I noticed the former American ambassador to Canada did an interview in the last couple of days as well. The message was the same, „it’s over now. Your reaction went overboard, and you need to drop it and get over it.“ That’s screams of worry. They shot themselves and all their allies in the foot and want us to forgive and forget. No apologies. No asking for forgiveness and no dropping the ridiculous tariffs. Fuck these twits.
Hoekstra is acting incredibly insufferably, and I’m wondering if it’s truly the only way to keep your job in this administration. Act like the biggest densest jerk in the room.
It’s not just a message to the US. It’s a message to the UK and to Europe the we want closer ties to that continent.

Well, we did and have continued to tell Trump that we aren’t interested in joining the union. But words don’t seem to work because it kept going.
So now, they’re upset that we’re affirming our sovereignty by asking our head of state to open the new parliament? How scandalous of us.
I don’t give a rat’s ass what the U.S. ambassador thinks about the Head of State of Canada giving a throne speech, which is 100% within his right to do so as King.
And I’m saying that as both a dual U.S. citizen and anti-monarchist.
I don’t think it is a message to the US so much as a message to Canadians that we aren’t alone and our PM has serious connections in Europe.
I posted when this whole thing began that a Royal Tour would be a nice morale boost for many Canadians. Given the health of the King, this is probably the more realistic option.
