Was he forced to resign in light of the poor Cabinet selections and increasingly obvious shared personnel and approach between the Carney government and Trudeau government? The timing is very suspect. The insinuation it’s in contemplation of a mayoral run, when that election is so far away, seems obviously false.
As mentioned, Mendicino was only ever there as a transition role but many people misinterpreted it as a permanent thing to run with the “same as Trudeau” messaging that Poilievre was pushing.
Nothing here aside from the transition being complete. Carney will find someone for the permanent position.
Wonder if Carlos Leitao being left out of the ministry was to keep him available for chief of staff. Steve Barclay was the PM’s chief of staff while remaining an MP in the UK
