Didn’t carney already say that he intended to cut it way back if not outright remove it?
Seems more like Javani is trying to show that he did something, which was already going to happen
Strangely, it’s not linked in the article *but* Mr Jivani has opted *not* to use the [official parliamentary petition process](https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/home/index); which [he’s used before](https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Search?parl=42%2C43%2C44%2C45&category=All&text=jivani). And so, I suspect this is more a tactic to harvest the contact information of those willing to sign such a petition then it is a serious attempt to shut down the TFW programme.

Without being in government, this is going to go nowhere.
That said, he’s 100% correct. The TFW program does nothing but create a underclass of labourers that hurts both the workers, and the domestic economy.
This is one of the consequences of poorly run programs. There is an appropriate place, and time for the TFWP. There are situations where TFW should be encouraged and permitted.
But, by having the program so absolutely abused by businesses, and the abuse permitted by the government, a program with a niche, but important, role is delegitimized. Nuance, details, complications, are set aside for simple politicking.
This petition won’t go far in parliament, but it will make an impact on our politics and the future of the program. The populist ire that will be stoked will not accept reform.
I’m not anti immigrant, but I might sign this which would force companies to either raise wages or not have employees. I haven’t fully digested what end the program would actually mean. Crops might not get harvested.

labour has to be fully commoditized, interchangeable, and replaceable with zero friction, or you’re just leaving money on the table
the last thing you want are „valuable“ employees
Gotta love a once immigrant taking an anti-immigrant stand. If there were people lining up to do these jobs, we wouldn’t have program set up to help Canadian businesses find workers.
If the CPC was serious about this they should’ve ran on this and I would’ve voted for them but no noise about this. I find it hard to believe them
The issue with this petition is it doesn’t solve the problem he’s looking to address. Canada has two programs for TFWs. One is called the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Employers have to submit an LMIA application to get approval before hiring a foreigner. Because of how onerous the process is, the TFWP comprises a fraction of total TFWs.
The biggest stream by far is the International Mobility Program. A lot of these TFWs come in through free trade agreements with the U.S. and other advanced countries like the UK, European ones, Australia, etc. Unless we cancel our FTAs, we can’t really stop these people from coming. Then we have people with special talents like athletes and entertainers who have visas under the IMP. The biggest source of IMP TFWs are former international students, but the government has been cracking down on them since last year.
I don’t think shutting down the TFWP will solve much. Most of those under the TFWP are farm workers who pick fruits and vegetables.
The measures the government has already introduced such as student caps and getting rid of LMIAs for permanent residence applications will help to bring the numbers down.
Have friends and family who voted conservative and saw this guy speak after winning his riding/the cbc interview, and even they were like “hell no” lol
He doesn’t seem to have any self awareness but likely thinks he’s coy/strategic/ calculated. In the interview we watched, all he could do was shit on Doug ford and basically try not to hint that he wants to take PPs spot.
Not once did he pretend to care about the voters or issues (politics 101)… All ego with somehow no charisma
