Republican congressman missed the House of Representatives vote on President Donald Trump’s sweeping budget package early Thursday morning because he was asleep, Speaker Mike Johnson has said.
„I just want you to know for the record, we really had 217 votes this morning. Andrew Garbarino did not make it in time. He fell asleep in the back, no kidding. I’m going to strangle him. But he’s my dear friend,“ Johnson joked at a press conference after the vote.

And it didn’t matter, because the Democrats lost three representatives votes due to .. checks notes… abrupt death due to old age.
Maybe don’t do these votes in the dead of night ?

Maybe if so many Democrats hadn’t died of old age it would have failed.
The dude that fell asleep is 40 years old. At first I thought, “wow, dude has no excuse”. Then I reconsidered, “oh you know what, I bet he has young kids. As a father to a baby and a toddler, I can sympathize with that”.

It’s really wild how much you hear about politicians constantly skipping votes, ignoring all correspondence from their constituents and still keeping their jobs.
If this was my level of performance at work, I’d be unemployed.
I interned as a page in the Minnesota State house in high school (2013 i think?). I was DUMBFOUNDED at all the Reps during votes not paying attention, sleeping, not there in the first place… its normal for them.
It still passed, I don’t know how ‘key’ that one vote would’ve been.
Meanwhile Dems had three members die in this term. Woulda been cool to be able to beat the bill but so many of our members are octogenarians that they can’t stay alive long enough to vote.
I will never understand why these 70-80 year old millionaires can’t get out of the way and go enjoy the rest of their years with their families. Instead, they’re mulling over whether to run again, while the country fucking burns and they do nothing.

On a lighthearted note… Brother, why tf would you say this 😭. This is a stfu moment and if you were going to say something about his absence, you give a generic excuse. Instead he threw Garbarino under the bus under zero pressure lol.
The vote was 215-214. Maybe this guy would have voted for the bill, maybe not.
However, Democrats could have prevented the bill from passing if not for an elderly member dying from cancer this week.
Meh, they started at like 1 AM Wednesday and voted on this early Thursday morning. I probably would have been asleep too

The Republicans know EXACTLY how many votes they need every single time, and they are being sneakily strategic about always having that number. It gives members cover (Murkowski, Collins) to vote No, or others to miss votes entirely.
This is always planned.
