> Rubio betrayed what seems to be the Trump administration’s actual beliefs about the U.S. government: that the presidency is more like an absolute monarchy that isn’t subject to congressional or judicial oversight.

MAGA is working very hard to get rid of the „checks and balances“ part of the Constitution.
They’ve already proven that there is no way for the Judicial to enforce rulings against the Executive and have shown us that they can ignore the Supreme Court with no fear of consequences.

Even though I lean left, I used to respect this guy as I also lived in Florida. Marco Rubio was one of the key members of the bipartisan „Gang of Eight“ in the U.S. Senate, not the „Gang of Five,“ as it’s sometimes mistakenly called. This group came together in 2013 to craft and promote a comprehensive immigration reform bill. The legislation aimed to tighten border security, overhaul the legal immigration system, implement a mandatory employment verification system, and create a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States. Rubio, then a rising Republican star and considered a bridge between the conservative base and more moderate voices, played a prominent role in promoting the bill, frequently defending it on conservative media platforms.
The bill successfully passed the Senate with a strong bipartisan vote of 68-32, but it ultimately failed in the House of Representatives. House Republican leaders, facing intense pressure from Donald J. Trump, declined to bring the bill to a vote, largely due to opposition to the pathway to citizenship, which Trump labeled as „amnesty.“ The political fallout for Rubio was significant. While his involvement in the Gang of Eight initially boosted his national profile, the backlash from conservatives and Tea Party members damaged his standing among the GOP base. In response, Rubio gradually distanced himself from the legislation, especially as he prepared for his 2016 presidential campaign.
He IS subject to the laws of the United States and took an oath to that very effect. I used to respect this man. He demonstrated compassion and empathy for immigration. Anyone who follows the guy on social media know he posts Bible scriptures. Perhaps he can come back to God and do the right thing.
He knows better…

This is why they grab and send people to foreign prisons first without due process, as quickly as possible before anyone can call their lawyer. Marco believes that once they left the US, they don’t have to answer to any legal order since it falls under foreign policy not domestic policy.

He thinks he’s part of the “federal branch”? That’s maybe just a mistaken word choice but maybe not, could be trying to make it seem like the judiciary branch is somehow not part of the federal government.
