I supported and defended Israel after Oct 9th but it’s increasingly clear Bibi is using the war to stay in power indefinitely, to avoid corruption charges, and to ethnically cleanse Gaza.
Israel needs elections now and Canada is right to start pulling back support.
Hamas is a horrible terrorist organization that is evil, counterproductive to Palestinian interests, and must be removed from power.
Having said that, the Israeli government is engaging in savagery. Frankly, I rolled my eyes when people started screaming about genocide in October 2023 but in May 2025 – deliberately starving millions of people looks a lot like genocide to me. The real meaning of the word, not the cirque du soleil that Amnesty International did with the definition.
I think that’s why you’re seeing western governments forcefully step in now. Israel has completely botched this war and has made cruelty to Palestinian civilians an objective of it.
The only real times hostages have been freed barring a couple exceptions were through a ceasefire and a hostage deal. Israel needs to end this hideous war then have elections to remove Bibi from power.
At one point, „Netanyahu’s Israel“ will have to face reality:
– They cannot paint themselves as „victims“ anymore when they are now destructing and killing with a magnitude that is 10 times bigger than what they are accusing the others of doing.
International laws exist for a reason and once you decided to disregard them, you are no longer on the „good side“ of history.
Israel is quickly heading toward being a pariah state like South Africa. Can’t come soon enough. Hopefully there will be some Palestinians left, at this rate.

Start referring to hostages as prisoners since that’s what they are. Captured Palestinians are not afforded that luxury.

I completely understand that the only route to ceasing the threat from Hamas is to have complete control over the Gaza strip. The part that everyone is pissed off about is starving the innocents. If they continued their campaign while at the same time providing humanitarian aid to the innocent civilians then they wouldn’t be receiving these threats from Western leaders.
I’m not really sure what the plan is with Gaza for the IDF, there dosen’t seem to even be a clear goal, just vauge end points. They seem to just be bombing stuff and invading over and over to do, something.
Never mind that aparentky after everything they have done, Hamas is still a threat? Seems like the IadF is just incompetent and trying to overcome that with indiscriminate firepower.
Hamas is a terrorist organisation that no one will miss if they are wiped out. At the same time, Netanyahu is a war criminal that needs to face justice for his crimes against innocent Palestinians.
I hate commenting on Israel/Palestine because of how polarizing it is, but this is a matter of human rights. It is wrong to not speak up. Israel wants justice for October 7th but you cannot achieve justice by committing injustices.
Purposely starving people or indiscriminately bombing targets makes you lose credibility with not only the world, but your allies too. Canada, the U.K., and France are right to take this stance. The response from Israel is disproportionate and continuing will only make you lose more allies.
Is there anyone in history more evil that Netanyahoo? You could argue leaders in the past have done worse than him in terms of total death and destruction, but they did not have the benefit of modern knowledge, which he has. So by that standard, which is to say modern standards, he seems uniquely evil.
Israel offered a huge prize to Hamas by starving the civilian population and committing genocide. He offered a huge prize to Hamas by letting far-right ministers push for even more extremist policies in Gaza.
He handed a huge prize to Hamas when Israel propped them up to splinter Palestinian politics and weaken a secular government (Fatah). He handed them a huge prize when he allows illegal West Bank settlements to continue with state protection, as it just strengthens their argument of being defenders of gazan territory.
At this point, when Netanyahu says something, a valid first reaction is to believe the opposite.
Netanyahu’s go to always seems to be „if the international community doesn’t do what I want on foreign policy for the middle east, then Iran/Hamas/Hezbollah wins because they’re now enabling them“ etc.
I think if you were to polls most Brits, French or Canadian voters, most of them would probably think that the crippling of Hezbollah, weakening of Hamas & dismantling of Iran’s proxy state are all probably silver-linings for the region in the long run, even if they agreed with Israel’s actions up to that point or not. The issue now isn’t so much that these countries want to enable Hamas as Netanyahu is claiming, but rather that Netanyahu’s government is effectively riding roughshod over Gaza and continuing to destabilize the region well after it’s weakened Hamas’s offensive capabilities significantly (as well as weakening Iran & it’s proxies), simply because it’s trying to prolong it’s time in office to avoid having to face the music back home. (pre-war unpopularity & corruption charges etc.)
