    1. The expectation that your neighbours will refrain from ever having a barbecue because of choices you’ve made on your own is just absurd.

Everyone in this story comes off as a bit childish, honestly, but ’never barbecue because we don’t like the smell‘ is ridiculous.

    2. What confuses me is that if the meat eating family were having a bbq, surely that is outside and there is no window for them to close. The vegan family should be closing *their* windows if it bothers them.

    3. I love letters like this with threats of „reports“ to unknown agencies or authorities – report away; do they *really* think the council or police will care at all? Similarly social media being used as a threat is hilarious too.

The recipient of the letters has more of a case to report *them* for harrassment if anything.

    4. It’s attitudes like this that make many vegans absolutely insufferable and miserable to be around. People just want to get on and live life their way. Why can’t people respect other people’s choices?

The neighbour should tell them about a severe oat and soy allergies they have and under no circumstance should they bring those products into their house.

    6. I’ve never seen a more horrible website full of crappy spam. Why share this crap?

I’d get a full on hog roast going and invite them over for the most basic looking dry salad

    8. There are 2-3 million vegans in the UK in 2025, and you can be sure that if any of them do anything stupid, they’re disproportionately likely to make national media. This is part of how the status quo maintains itself, and also how propaganda works… we can all be smarter than this.

Why does every modern genuine news producers website function like damn Limewire.

Feels like the Futurama ep where they’re in the Internet fighting off ads

Meanwhile I’ve decided my neighbour is only allowed to eat fish on thursdays if there is a full moon. Thank you for your understanding

As someone who has been vegan for more than 10 years, the only issue i have with smelling a BBQ is that it just makes me hungry. It’s not even a meat smell (unless you are close), it’s just a generic BBQ smell that you can smell no matter what you are cooking. Also Beyond Burgers are incredible on BBQs!

    12. Drab_Majesty on

well done to the vegans in getting *just deserts* right while the „journalist“ still fucked it up.

This story doesn’t make sense. It claims to be about barbecues but given the wording of the letter it’s clearly not. It’s just ragebait.

    14. Monkeyboogaloo on

      They should take it seriously.

Or one day they’ll wake up with a severed head of cabbage in their bed.

The main character syndrome is strong in this one. Love the ‚last warning‘ bit. Who are they gonna report it to, the Vegan Branch of Police Scotland?

    16. Sorry, but I would never expect anyone to do this if I was vegan. Same with smoking, if someone wants to smoke in their house, it’s none of my business even if I don’t like the smell.

      Isn’t a bar b q outside
The shut your windows when cooking is because I salivating over the delicious smell of meat

    18. asexyshaytan on

What if they cook vegan meat which still has the same smell?

      Would they still complain

I swear these sort of articles aren’t actually real and just made up shite on Facebook to drive clicks

    20. I’m vegan and know a fair few others, none of us preach about how meat is murder or try restrict others food choices, on the other hand I get constant comments about my diet.

Ultimately though this boils down to “dickheads don’t respect others and try to control them”, regardless of whether you do or don’t eat meat just leave people alone.

I swear this story with slight variations does the rounds every year. I’m pretty sure people make this shit up to try and feed the anti-vegan narrative everyone’s loves to peddle.

    22. HawkAsAWeapon on

This is just your typical rage bait, and we should be smart enough not to fall for it.

Nuisance neighbours are common, but for some reason just because it’s vegans (if this even happened at all – the same story does the rounds every other year or so) it’s deemed news worthy. The only reason is because it’s riles people up and brings in clicks and revenue.

    23. PrincipleCareful5030 on

I feel like this whole thing is totally fabricated/engineered clickbait

    24. From reading the article it seems the vegans mean general cooking smells from the house as they’ve asked them to shut a window when cooking.

If the neighbours are barbecuing inside I don’t think the problem will persist too much longer.

    25. Ok-Anything-2083 on

I’ve been a Vegan for years and my neighbors have barbecues. I don’t dictate to other people what they can do in their own gardens. My neighbors and I get along really well.

Another load of click bait bollocks from Reach, obviously works mind, seeing some of the comments here. drrrr

    27. On the 18th of April 1930, BBC News said „Good evening, there is no news today“ and had gentle piano music for the rest of the broadcast. Maybe these ‚journalists‘ need to take a leaf out of their book.

„One person in Edinburgh is a bit mental“ is not news. If there’s nothing to report, report nothing. It’s this kind of rage baiting nonsense, and telling everyone to „have your say, your say is so important, tell us what you think, share it with your friends, share our shitty article with an intrusive ad after every 3 words“ that’s responsible for the enormous amount of general stupidity among our populace.

These articles only exist for people to share with their friends and go „Bloody veguns 😡😡😡 woke gone mad 😡😡😡 ill have extra bacon for them ha ha ha“

I’m vegan and think that behaviour is completely fucking weird. If you have a BBQ I’ll probably think it smells nice and be glad you’re enjoying a rare day of sunshine.

      Absolute killjoys

    29. This is not news. It doesn’t say anything about vegans in general, it is rage bait, pointless divisive BS.

    30. Few_House_5201 on

I hate it when vegans act like this. It just makes people hate them and not actually listen to their views.

I’m vegetarian myself but go about it quietly and never try and tell anyone else not to eat meat but if they ask why I’m vegetarian then I’ll gladly explain.

    31. Routine-Basis-9349 on

You can guarantee that a few people will read this and say, „See, this is why I can’t stand vegans.“ … job done

    32. ThinkOfPeanutButter on

My family dog refused to have meat since she was a puppy and would barf at the smell of meat being cooked by our neighbors on weekends 🙈

Our neighbors would sweetly give us a heads up so we’d move her to the other side of the house when they cooked lol
