> The number of billionaires in the UK has grown sharply – from 15 in 1990 to 165 in 2024 – at the same time as inequality in the UK’s overall wealth distribution has dramatically increased, analysis has found.
> Timed to coincide with the Sunday Times’ rich list, the Equality Trust’s investigation also found that billionaires have become “ludicrously” more wealthy, with their average wealth rocketing by more than 1,000% over the same period.
Gonna think about articles like this every time someone asks ‚how are we going to pay‘ for vital public services.
The money’s still there. It’s just being increasingly hoarded by a tiny number of people at the very top. The richest people in society have become 1000% more richer over the past 35 years, can the average person in this country claim anything close to that?
That’s how this economic system works. It seems that the majority don’t care about these disparities as long as there is food on the table.
Some of these families have been wealthy since Norman invasion when they took power with brute force, yet they get special treatment and deference on top of wealth and inherent privilege
But don’t you know they already pay 99% of all taxes!
Look over there laddie…. That immigrant wants your biscuit!
But yes, the average little Englander will bellow that migrants having a place to sleep is the main cause of their ever-worsening livelihoods.
And all the people who never took any risks, who never produced anything useful, who never invested in the long term, are crying envying and requesting redistribution
No it’s actually Rashid and his family coming over on all those boats that are withholding the country’s wealth. Nigel Farage said so!!!!!
Sad thing is, Reform UK LTD PLC INC voter “Steve from Blackburn” thinks that, by voting Reform UK LTD PLC INC, he may just one day also become a billionaire, despite dropping out of school at 4, having 473 criminal convictions, not a single qualification, and can barely speak his own language.

But remember, it’s still the sick and disabled who are making your lives a misery. That is the official party line
This should be common knowledge for everyone, but the billionaire backed daily mail has been corroding the minds of the British lower class who think the problem are the people who come in boats, not the ones who fly 20 minutes in private jets.
They lied, there *is* a magic money tree.
Make a tax on people moving their money abroad first before doing anything else this time …
Can we send them all on a one way holiday trip to Mars?
But I thought all of my issues were the fault of a refugee escaping a war we created in their country decades ago
And I suspect that’s only on the money they declare. Bet they have a lot more hidden away.
The argument of „there’s not enough money“ for public services, investment or infrastructure is just complete and utter bollocks innit.
Trickle down economics was the biggest con ever.
Do we form a line or is getting the privilege to pull the leaver going to be done on a lottery basis?
The government should be forcibly taking the wealth they’re hoarding ngl. There’s no reason why a single person should be nearly as rich as a nation
It’d be considerably more palatable if it even remotely resembled a meritocracy.
Farage will tell his supporters, „Look, it’s fifty-fifty, all fair, and what you should really get angry about is that Brown child in that dingy over there.“
…And the ignorant f**kwits will lap it up.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with that
The problem is the lack liquidity of their assets and the lack of reinvestment of capital
So much ridiculousness here…
The issue this country has is the wealthy here do not take RISKS with their money. You don’t see British VCs blowing money on ridiculous start ups, which is a bad thing. We need to create an environment where we encourage risky investments by wealthy people.
The paper not owned by billionaires reporting the problem with billionaires.
