There are certain industries in Canada that aren’t yet mature enough to act as a substitute for American products (ex. Intercoms) and some also where markets outside of North America are too different from our standards (ex. door hardware). If we do dollar for dollar tariffs then we’ll crush our construction industry and be stuck with a housing shortage.

Would love to see media holding private sector’s ‘feet to the fire’ (importers & exporters) what are you doing to nail-down replacement markets in Europe and Asia, given the governments have opened up both markets with free trade agreements & those governments abide by their treaties?

    3. Over 80% of Canadian products today go into the US tariff free

We actually have one of the lowest tariff burdens of all countries with CUSMA

I want export taxes on all our resources to America. There might be a few cases where tariffs are acceptable, but they are just a TAX on Canadians. Lets tax the enemy.

Keep up with the tariffs! When US products get more expensive it’s even easier to skip them at the store. I’ve really enjoyed seeing smaller Canadian brands finally get a space on the shelves, and the quality is so much better too. Why was I buying American lettuce when apparently we _do_ have local alternatives?? My store just wasn’t stocking it before.

      Elbows up!

    6. Emotionally, we are keen on tariff retaliation, but luckily, Ottawa knows they have to balance the pain we inflict on the US and the pain we would inflict on ourselves.

Seems like most Canadians are not too bright then. They do realize that „dollar-for-dollar“ tariffs will have an immediate and significant impact on their cost of living, right? „Buy Canadian“ only goes so far, and only works if there is actually a Canadian option to buy.

i repeatedly read economists condemning tariffs as ineffective trade tools, but i especially hear globally that american tariffs are a recessive failure that will stifle trade for everybody.

stop the bandwagon before it goes downstream and ask, why are some of us canadians so keen on joining the states in their resoundingly bad decisions?
