A weird number of people on reddit: „But no one actually likes AOC.“
**EDIT**: Case in point, the replies. Someone literally arguing with me that this poll *doesn’t* show she’s the most popular candidate, because he doesn’t know math, and then blocked me.
Don’t let the right wing set the narrative
You’re goddamned right.
She should run for Senate. Schumer is incredibly unpopular and even if he decides against retiring, she could beat him in the primary and there are no republican New Yorkers who could compete in that race.
Her „I will not yield to disrespectful men,“ line today would make for a great tag in that primary or at large.
The DNC will support a white male.
Instead, the DNC will run an elderly white guy and lose.
I’m okay with that, but it’s early days yet. I wouldn’t read anything into this. I can remember when everyone was so sure Jeb would be a hot contender.
Liberals: america is too racist and sexist to ever elect a female president.
Also liberals: AOC is the future of our party! 🤨
I’m all for AOC!
But
Not voting because you don’t have your preferred choice is irresponsible.
This is how we got where we are today. Everyone must vote or we are never going to regain our country!
You know what she’s actually grown up a lot the last few years and she’s actually a lot more tempered. I will support her. I think she’s sharp.
When our constitution is rescribed and corrected, I want AOC to put her Big ass John Hancock signature on it.
Mark my words, The Democratic Party apparatus/machine/incumbents will choose Bust instead of AOC.
AOC is great, but the party doesn’t want great…they want compliant.
For me it’s less about is it AOC and more about is it not Schumer, Pelosi, or any other Old Guard of the party. The Democrats almost had their revolution instead of the GOP when Sanders nearly won the nomination. Polling indicated that a significant enough subset of independent voters liked Sanders more than Trump, but liked Trump more than Clinton. This country would be nothing like it is now if he had won, and a progressive agenda was and still is popular with the people.
At the end of the day most voters want significant change, and Trump can’t give it to them the way he promised. There’s still an opportunity to turn people away permanently from the GOP’s regressive politics, but that requires politicians that are willing (and able) to ignore the wealthy donors that bet on both horses so they never lose.
Let’s not anoint someone as face of Dem party, we tried that already and it didn’t work out so great .
Is anyone surprised? Watch any of her speeches and listen to the issues she focuses on: working class struggles, civil rights and liberties, accountability in government – all subjects the Democratic party is allegedly „supposed“ to champion and yet has clearly abandoned.
Her opening remark at the Los Angeles rally was, and I quote,
>We’re all here together because **we share a frustration and heartache that comes from watching those in power actively tear down or refuse to fight for everyday working Americans like us**.
>And we are here together because an extreme concentration of power, greed, and corruption is taking over this country like never before. Oligarchy in America.
>**We must acknowledge the terrifying moment that we are in right now, and that what we are seeing and hearing with our own eyes and ears** **is in fact happening**.
>We are watching our neighbors, students, and friends be fired, targeted, and disappeared. **It is real**.
>People we love are being targeted and harassed for being trans or queer. Our coworkers, US citizens and immigrants alike, are being disappeared off the street by men in vans with no uniform. Educators are being fired for teaching American history accurately, and activists are being detained with no charge or evidence for using their First Amendment rights, especially when they use them for Palestinians.
>In fact, the Trump administration admits that it has jailed Mahmoud Khalil, a young husband and father from New York, without any evidence or charge of a crime. The Trump administration admits that they have thrown Mahmoud in a cell thousands of miles away because he attended a protest and are detaining him for the contents of his speech and nothing more.
>In fact, **Donald Trump’s detention of someone like Mahmud Khalil for his speech** **is** **anti-American**. And we demand his release, and the release of Rumeysa Ozturk, who he is also jailing for writing an op-ed in her school paper. **And we demand their release because we, Los Angeles, we do have power in this moment.** **All of us do.**
She’s one of the few voices speaking to this absolutely significant portion of the population right now. Why wouldn’t she be the obvious choice?
People want the policies they believe she represents. Don’t get it backwards.
I know a lot of people have a problem with her, but it feels like she’s the only person who is fired up, speaking truth, and able to get attention. There are plenty of decent people in the Democratic party, but few are as able to get the attention she gets, and in this day and age that’s hugely important.
The DNC will choose bust
She has not shown any of the necessary pragmatism to be a savvy politician. No governing experience. She appealed to the Bernie crowd and pretty much no one else. I’m calling a bull trap.
I wasn’t in the poll
Fuck Chuck Schumer. Go home old man. You’re so out of touch that we’re not even in the same timeline. AOC at least understands the times we live in and the danger facing the nation. Schumer still thinks this is 20 years ago, smoke and mirrors, where both sides talk shit about each other and then come together in a bipartisan manner and go out for drinks after.
I’m all for it.
What about Pete??
White republicans voting for a lil Spanish girl? What universe y’all living in can I join?
Unleash this tigress of woman and allow her to run amok among the GOP gazelles. The world is ready.
I like Sheldon Whitehouse too
Wow, who among the Democratic leadership could have foreseen that the base would respond to someone who legitimately cares about their wellbeing?
I don’t think she’s quite at the level AOC is yet, but Kat Abughazaleh has also consistently impressed me in the clips I’ve seen of her and the handful of longer speeches of hers I have read.
It’s just nice to see some fresh, energetic progressive faces in the stagnant waters of American politics.
I don’t disagree but the „no one“ strategy is exactly how the people are in this mess right now.
Honestly I think her views on social issues will make or break a run to the presidency.
If she comes out in favor of trans women in men’s sports or can’t define a women. She’s gonna go down in flames.
The US electorate will not elect a woman as president. It sucks, but that’s the reality.
Little early in the election cycle to try and kneecap the Democratic party. 😒
In a just world she would be president. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a just world.
Terrible idea. AOC is great but I’m sure the lame duck democrats would love to have her presidency wasted on cleaning up trumps messes instead of making any real progress that could damage them from ripping off their voters. She should wait and take a different position for now
If a deranged, criminal can be POTUS twice*, AOC can be elected POTUS in 2028. The Democratic Party should be Walz, AOC, Crockett … and to a lesser extent Pete. Why do republicans never have to tone it down?
Well you can be sure the DNC is going to force someone in who doesn’t have a shot
AOC or no one? Serious!?! It’s no wonder GOP have us on the ropes. I’m not knocking AOC but WTF is the “or no one” part of that statement?
If our voters considered the alternative of them not supporting our candidates Trump would have NEVER won an election!
Long way to go before we figure that out. We shouldn’t try to anoint anyone yet.
Right now lots of people are (sadly) being broken by the republican party, trying to play king(or queen) maker via the media 3+ years out before the big ticket will only backfire. Personally I want her to run for the senate, get some more experience under her belt, and have lasting influence for years to come as opposed to trying to go for 4 or 8 years, and then fading away the way most former presidents do.
Sure hand the GOP another White House.
And the personality cult sham continues. Congratulations to whoever is coming up with this bullshit. Well done.
No chance she wins. Another wasted election.
i’m center left and not exactly thrilled at the prospect of aoc but i know im not unhappy. i will gladly support her all the way to the presidency
Can we please not throw another election. The current electorate will not allow a women to be elected probably for at least 3 more cycles. Run for Senate we cannot afford to lose the 2028 presidential assuming it happens.
Fuck. Yes.
