I don’t think this is a politically sound idea. The Liberals are currently at the peak of their political power and popularity right now, and have the most political capital to expend they ever will. Now is the perfect time to force through a budget, including any unpopular but necessary reforms. No opposition party would dare to put up much resistance against it, or try to extract concessions.

EDIT: So actually it’s actually worse than I thought. It’s not just that they aren’t presenting a budget before summer. [They don’t plan to present a budget at all this year](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberals-won-t-table-budget-1.7534962), only a fall economic statement. Suffice to say, I think this is a terrible idea and I hope Carney changes his mind on it. A minority government already has limited runway, maybe 2-3 budgets at most historically, and for Carney to give one of them up is not good. Especially given the scale of transformative reform he wants to implement.

I wonder how much the capital gains tax „cut“ saved each wealthy family compared to how much the 1% income tax reduction will save each working family.

    3. Lowering Income Tax by 1% will equate to an extra $573 a year for those who exceed the first bracket. That will a little over $20 a paycheque, less for those who don’t make 57k a year.

This is nice, but I am waiting for more significant change systemically. I would rather keep the 1% in the budget and utilize the funding for better policy and programs.

    4. Has anyone been able to confirm whether the budget is delayed *or* will not be presented? Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but my read of Champagne’s comments is that the government has no plans to present a 2025-2026 budget at all, and instead will just move on to giving a Fall Economic Statement.

    5. Is it possible at all to lower taxes while having large deficits without triggering a crisis like Liz Truss did in the UK?
