It seems like there have been a few cases like this recently, with coroners recommending changes. But the government haven’t done anything yet.
just as there is a lower limit to age for getting a license, there needs to be an upper limit too. but there also needs to be alternative transportation that works for older people so they don’t get isolated at home.
It’s been obvious for a while. My step dad has no business driving but he wont listen, gonna hurt himself and/or my mum sooner or later
My uncle should have stopped driving years ago and has been told numerous times by family members to stop. He is still legally on the road.
I was ill last year that led to having a stroke that impacted my sight. As my vision was checked by the hospital the DVLA were informed, I went to an opticians for formal tests and it led to my licence being revoked because my vision was not good enough.
I still have better vision than my uncle who can continue to self certify. The rules are inconsistent and lead to things like this happening.
Problem is lack of funding. A few deaths a year are cheaper than employing the 1000s of extra examiners needed if pensioners had to take tests every x number of years to continue to drive.
Because it’s seen as political suicide to suggest any policy that doesn’t directly benefit OAPs
What about doing the same for younger drivers? They cause more deaths than older drivers. Drivers under 25 are more dangerous than drivers in their 80s.
Maybe there should be more checking that _all_ drivers are fit to drive.
Get old people off the road nearly been backed over by an old woman reversing out of a junction insteading of driving forwards because they’re fucking old and decrepit. I don’t want to lose my life to someone who hasn’t got more than 10 years to live max
