Look, the ATC issues has been ongoing for years, decades even, they have been short staffed forever. To single Biden out is just the way this juvenile administration work, and smacks of desperation at this point. At the same time this shit DOGE has pulled and is in the process of pulling exacerbates the problem, and that is squarely on Trump’s shoulders.

The good: Biden’s DOT and Pete Buttigieg did great work to protect consumers and hold the airline industry accountable for taking care of passengers. They proposed a massive investment into ATC that was blocked by a republican congress. Buttigieg commissioned a big study into ATC staffing and retirements that’s driving decisions this admin is making.
The bad: Mike Whittaker, the FAA admin at the time, pushed through the movement of Newark approach controllers from N90 on Long Island to Philadelphia, which is responsible for the ATC outages we’re seeing in the news right now. These controllers work only off of radars and radios. The risk assessment of this move significantly downplayed the risk of data outages and communication barriers. It also eliminated their training pipeline and reduced staffing. Bipartisan NY area senators and congressmen spoke out against this move.
The solution (for the stuff we’re seeing in the news right now): Move EWR controllers back to N90.
