Hasan Piker, an online streamer and political commentator, was detained for several hours by Customs and Border Protection officers over the weekend and asked leading questions about what he thought of President Donald Trump and Hezbollah, among other topics, he said.
“They literally, they tried to straight-up get something out of me that I think they could use to basically detain me permanently,” he said.

That is pretty damn fucked up and scary as hell. Dude was born in New Jersey. Natural born citizen. Sure, he’s outspoken so there is a bigger target on his head, but if they are trying to detain a US citizen, they could use the same justification to detain any US citizen.

We are in a new era of mccarthyism, simultaneously we are in a state of manufactured moral panic similar to the lavender scare or satanic panic. Are you a ‘real’ American? Are you a ‘real’ patriot? Are you a ‘real’ woman? Are you a ‘real’ Christian? Many people will be imprisoned over these questions and other similar ones in the coming years, and many people will be murdered for their answers.

And I continue to be glad I cancelled my overseas travel for the year, as much as I wanted to go. I’m published in academic areas the administration does not like and it is real shitty I feel the need to be concerned about it.
Freedom of speech is ending in America and of course the right doesn’t care. They only cared about their speech -the right to say slurs without social consequences. Everyone has to worry about getting detained and sent to CECOT now when they travel.
