President Donald Trump has accepted a luxury plane as a „gift“ from Qatar’s royal family that will be used as Air Force One―but will reportedly continue to use the jet even after he leaves office.

Officials from the Middle Eastern country said the gift was between governments rather than a personal present to Trump, noting the plane was being given by the Qatari Ministry of Defense to the Pentagon. The Boeing 747-8 jet will be retrofitted to make it suitable for use as the presidential plane, including the addition of heightened security features.

I don’t care what „legal“ chicanery they use to make this okay. It is a violation of the emoluments clause.

    3. Guess Qatar learned their lesson from the first Trump term about what happens when you don’t pay tribute.

Can some please explain how this isn’t blatant corruption? A foreign government is giving our president a personal gift worth millions and millions of dollars.

Does he get to keep all the DoD upgrades to ensure the level of comsec required to run the armed forces, because that’s what Airforce One can do now.

Assuming we regain any semblance of sanity and we do have free and fair elections, the next incoming administration should immediately take possession of that plane if this gift ever makes it to the US. Do not wait for court cases. Do not wait for lawyers to weave eloquent arguments. Do not let him pass go and collect $200. Send in law enforcement and return it to the US government.

      So basically a bribe.

Imagine if someone gave AOC a billion dollar jet.

    8. MilitantRabbit on

What need does a businessman who won’t be President anymore need with a hardened jet? Probably to continue feeling important. It’s the reverse of “what does God need with a starship?”

    9. Didn’t his press blonde just shame America for suggesting the Trump family is profiting off the Presidency?

    10. I wonder how many microphone/bugs and trackers/cameras could be on that aircraft? Good ol built-in features.

Recalls added rooms and corridors, free of charge w/the US embassy in Russia.

At first I was upset at the blatant corruption until Trump started to sidestep Israel and is talking directly with Hamas on hostage deals, now I see the Qataris are just bribing his to end the conflict.

Let’s set aside the clear bribery and the yet another, constitutional crisis at this creates. This is a nightmare from national security standpoint. They could have any tracking software on this plane. They could have a self-destruct on this plane and we would not know it and it’s going to be Air Force One?

    13. SuckingDuckForQuack on

Maybe trump should be happy with just 1 or 2 jets… be comfortable with less.

    14. Responsible-Pain-620 on

Hey remember when MAGA wouldn’t shut up about how Trump wasn’t taking his salary as a personal benefit to the American people? Yet they’re ok with him taking bribes from the Saudis? Cool cool

    15. What is going on America

The passiveness of Americans to such blatant corruption rivals North Koreans (who unlike Americans, have a very good reason for being passive).

The long term damage being done here (everything you let Trump get away with, you’re letting future presidents get away with too) is unheard of in the west.

A fucking 400 million dollar jumbo jet?? Wtf

    16. Abraxas_Templar on

      Absolutely illegal.

Imagine if Obama had taken a 400 million gift from a foreign country. The Republicans would have lost their fucking minds.

    17. I_Enjoy_Beer on

Bribery. Pure, naked, bald-faced bribery. He should be impeached and removed from office, but alas, this Republican Congress has no balls. There are not many other alternative means for addressing this issue.

    18. I had a friend that worked for USAID. They were not allowed to accept a cup of coffee from someone that they were doing business with.

    19. NormalJim78 on

I’m second thinking this grift… maybe they will plant bugs, surveillance, and other systems… like auto eject seats, or something to make the plane go boom? I mean – he’s so trusting… I wouldnot be surprised if this “gift” is another gift of sorts

    20. I remember when the Clintons took a few forks and soup bowls and it was highway robbery…

    21. Jack-Tar-Says on

The corruption is so bare faced they no longer care.

They’re untouchable because they’re ruling a banana republic.

    22. So can a sale of this be forced to pay off any outstanding court judgements?

    23. DiagonalBike on

No he won’t. Democrats will be retaking the House and the Senate in 2026 and open an investigation into the „gift“ and also require Trump to recompensate US for all enhancements funded by Taxpayers.

    24. Defiant_Extent3815 on

I wish someone from Qatar would help me with my son’s medical costs. It would be fine if someone from our government wanted to help as well. Why do con artist get to succeed in life while real people have to struggle so much?

    25. aduncan8434 on

If Obama had gotten a palace in the sky from the Arabs he’d be bitching about it still, even when giving him one as well.

    26. Significant_Map122 on

Trump isn’t draining the swamp, he’s building a fucking reservoir.

    27. HitchensWasTheShit on

Seems like Americans are finding out the holes in the constitution, like finding bugs in an old IT system

    28. Is this serious? How is this a „personal gift“ I thought that presidents had to pay the fair market value for presidential gifts that they wanted to keep?

    29. sineady-baby on

I have to go through anti bribery training in my shitty job every year, while “the leader of the free world” gets to keep a jet. WTF

    30. continuousBaBa on

Every day Trump showing why no one should respect the rule of law anymore.

    31. Loveroffinerthings on

Bob Menendez (rightfully) was convicted of bribery for taking some gold bars, but Trump gets a jet?!?!?

    32. jrodfantastic on

The dumb donkey tried to spin that today that “it was a free and would be silly to decline”. However, it will cost millions to secure and sweep. And if he intends to keep keep it, then that doesn’t defer any of additional the billions it will cost to create a new AFO fleet.

Meanwhile, we somehow can’t afford to employ park rangers or tax preparers for $37k annually.
