    1. Trump’s greatest achievements are always when he stops doing whatever stupid stuff he started.

    2. JadedIT_Tech on

Sometimes it’s hard to say whether or not this is blatant market manipulation or just abject stupidity.

      Probably somewhere in between.

    3. And it’s still only a pause. They didn’t “solve” anything. They just lowered the heat so they can ride the market up for a while.

    4. loglighterequipment on

Isn’t there still a bubble of shortages working it’s way through the supply chain? The earthquake may have stopped but the tsunami is gathering steam.

    5. It’s not a total surrender.

30% tariffs are still bad. It’s not “total blockade” bad but it is still a major tax hike on the lower and middle classes. It’s the equivalent of a 30-30% sales tax.

If the markets rejoice at this they’re missing reality.

Thats what you get for your hot air bluster. China is in your face gave you back a fat middle finger. 👏🏻👏🏻

    7. Create the problem, then take credit for the solution, even though it’s worse than it was to begin with.

I’m still trying to figure out how to diversify my modest investments internationally. I have zero trust in any American institution now.

If these institutions impeached and removed Trump and his lackeys, I’d feel more physical and financial security. But that seems like a remote prospect, so that leaves me with divesting in the USA

      Trump to China: PAY NOW.

      China: No.

      Trump: I surrender.

      Totally predictable.

Meanwhile prices are still going up 10%-30% on all imported goods. The media is really fucking up the information on this entire fiasco.

    11. All that and nothing was achieved… for all the bravado this guy had weeks ago.

    12. I remember a month ago people said the tariffs would bring money in the economy and it would bring jobs back. Now he’s trying to roll back tariffs, so it was never about bringing jobs back. And there’s still higher tariffs in place than there was pre-Trump 2.0, so we are still paying more for shit. There’s no winning from this we are still being shafted.

    13. All other countries are going to be moving as far from American dependency as possible with the full backing of their respective populations, all of whom hate Trump and aren’t too enamoured by America as a whole, because that’s how public opinion works. All Americans are tarred by the Trump brush in the same way all British people are tarred with the Brexit brush. The difference is America experienced a disastrous Trump presidency and it’s aftermath and then did the same again, and we all find that to be fucking stupid and inexcusable.

    14. And the best part is he forced our allies to find new markets. Bravo! So much winning!

    15. UnusualDoctor on

Because this wasn’t the plan all along, was it? Tank the stock markets, buy in low, sell high.

      No. Never.

    16. It seems odd to „celebrate“ when the current situation is still significantly worse than it was before the stupidity that trump unleashed upon us all.

    17. GalacticFartLord on

Im starting to think this might not actually be about bringing manufacturing back to the US!

    18. jrblockquote on

But wait, I thought this kludge of economic policy would bring back manufacturing, or stop fentanyl, or reduce people coming into this country. Certainly an excessively self aggrandizing man would never back down from this surefire, carefully considered implementation of sanctions designed to save our country. Never ever ever never…

    19. obsertaries on

If I was someone who voted for Trump to bring back manufacturing then I’d be PISSED!

But I’m not them and somehow they won’t be.

    20. Step 1: Start fire

      Step 2: Partially extinguish fire

Step 3: Proclaim yourself a hero

At what point does the market just stop reacting to this nonsense? 30% is still insane and I’d be shocked if this lasts a full 90 days anyway.

    22. „Markets soar to 2,500 points lower than when Joe Biden was in office“

    23. Trump just announced that he has facilitated TEN TRILLION dollars in new manufacturing plants investment because of his tariffs.

This lunatic keeps upping the lies to profoundly absurd claims.

    24. Officer_Hotpants on

Okay, but we’re still going to see SIGNIFICANT price increases even if he drops down to 30%. It’s still fucked when a huge portion of the population is paycheck to paycheck.

    25. So leme see if i have this correct…

Create chaos either through a policy that makes no sense or through the sheer force of your own incompetence.

Let the anticipation of the policy force market turmoil and sell offs.

Begin to feel the heat of your own actions

Blame someone else hopefully the sleepy guy who came before you

Back down off your own policy

      ???

      Profit

      (repeat)

    26. Not_a__porn__account on

Okay now don’t let the narrative shift.. Trump made things worse. This is a reaction to not following trump policies.

    27. whofusesthemusic on

its still a 30% tariff which was, as of 3 days ago, still high enough to effectively embargo a ton of goods…

    28. As much as he’s flip-flopped I wouldn’t put it past him that he’s carrying out some Grade A Market Manipulation for him, his kids, and his friends. Just watch. SCOTUS has already said he can’t get in trouble for anything he does while he’s President. Wouldn’t be surprised if they say the Emoluments Clause doesn’t apply to a sitting President either.

    29. Two things about Trump:

      1) ETTD
      2) He *always* folds like a cheap suit when confronted.

    30. So Trump creates a Tariff war.
      Stocks tank.
Trump and his cronies buy the stock at rock bottom prices.
Trump makes a deal on Tariffs
      Stock prices jump.
Trump and his cronies are richer
The worker bees pay the price.

    31. downtownlarry on

Trump is making people feel 30% tariffs is very normal and affordable.
