Fake promises and changing of names to sound like they are located in popular cities.
If it was a mega corp doing it the press would write it off as marketing. What brilliant sales people they are.
At least they lie to all their students not just home grown ones.
They’ve been luring students of all stripes in on false promises for a long time now.
I attended an open day in 2015 before I started my biomedical science degree and was told they’d never had a student fail to secure an NHS placement year. Placement year rolls around, and they had 7 slots for 140 students. We had to go through a multi-stage interview process to secure one, which ended with most students failing to secure a placement.
They’d tell you the sky was green if they thought it’d get you to sign up.

Why use an agent when you can find a Brookes undergraduate to tell you that for free?
Spiv Britain at its finest. The article makes out that it’s just dodgy agents but the universities are in on it too.
Considering the amount these students are paying we ought to treat them a whole lot better.

I understand the money helps keep the fees minimum for locals , but hey, what a vile way to do this.

Despite being a huge supporter of education and its positive impact on society and people, I’ve long been sceptical of universities.
It’s an over-expanded sector and they are run like businesses looking for growth – and that has led to driving up student numbers, competing for international money and student league table position with ever questionable courses, activities and approach. It’s well over a decade since I was at university but it was clear they were milking Chinese students then, and there are loads of reports on here of them clearly looking the other way at overseas students blatant cheating and under participation to keep the money coming in. I hear international students in my city and their English can be awful just ordering food, no idea how they can write passable essays…
It’s the same with some charities and both hide behind a mask of „but we are not for profit…“.
I think the sector is ripe for resize and reform, although I hope the majority of staff are supported and protected.
It is genuinely true.. The current education system in the uk.. unless you are in the 0.25 percent and in oxford and camb.. Requires the currency weak country to sell their land to come to uk to ‚learn‘ stupid stuff that wont help them..
In their own country they will be rich have a big house and live in luxury according to the country..
But when they come to the uk after spending all that money they are given 28k gbp pounds and they save a fraction of that.. Seems like a total scam for the people who made that effort to leave their loved ones behind.. In the end its a piece of paper with a historic chimps photo on it.. Now its just numbers on a screen.. Value of it should be decided of that country only.
Education being run as a business is an awful idea that perverts the point of an educational institution, they aren’t even being run inline with what the UK needs support for economically/skillswise.
They actually have former Indian students as kind of Brokers. These guys run „education consultancies‘ whereby they recruit students who get educational loans back home.in India (many parents use their homes and real estate as collaterals) and come here to study in diploma mill colleges..and end up jobless after Uni and riddled with debt..these brokers get a percentage cut from the colleges as commission for each student they lure in..they have active instagram accounts to showcase the student lives.
Please don’t. Look at Canada. They did the same and people are being abused.
This isn’t a new thing, it has been happening for decades and not just to international students.
When I went to uni 20 years ago we were told that as Forensic Computing students we would be almost guaranteed a job at the end of it due to the growing threat if cyber criminals.
3 years later after graduation, only 4 people out of the 45 that finished the course got a job and 2 of those was largely because their dads worked for a cyber security company.
An unfortunate byproduct of the Tories stripping Universities of funding and forcing them to run like businesses is students are treated like profit making vehicles…
