Because my parents didn’t have much money, but did have enough that I didn’t qualify for much in the way of grants, the US Federal Government paid the interest on the majority of my student loans until the end of my education. So, back when I was an American student at KU Leuven, it was quite important to me that the university was on a white list of institutions of higher learning at the US Department of Education, because that allowed me to be eligible for the continued deferment of the interest on my subsidized student loans. However, aside from weird hyper-specific cases like mine, its hard to imagine what impact the US State Department deciding it doesn’t like the answers for whatever reason could really have?

If there even is a plan for some kind of consequence for Flemish Universities, it could only be stupid, small in the scheme of things but big for some innocent fool, mostly self-defeating for Americans, and the unpredictable downstream result of long butterfly effect-like chains of causation.

>The universities are explicitly asked whether their projects do not contain elements of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI). Moreover, they are polled whether they focus on climate justice.

>It is also asked whether the institutions have links with countries such as China, Russia, Iran or Cuba. Universities must indicate in the survey that they distance themselves from communist or anti-American ideologies.

>Institutions must also confirm that their projects protect women from „gender ideology“. In line with the Trump administration’s policy, there are questions about promoting “patriotic values,” respecting national sovereignty and limiting migration.

>Finally, any notable questions include whether the institutions contribute to the influx of synthetic drugs such as fentanyl in the U.S., and whether they take sufficient anti-terrorism measures.

If they dare to do this to foreign universities, what are they capable to do? Disgusting!
