I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Les Mis is one of Trump’s favorite musicals. Does he not understand what it’s about?

I don’t get it…in Trump’s mind, are the Thenardiers the heroes? He can’t possibly identify with Jean Valjean or Javert – redemption and rigid adherence to the law are two things he doesn’t understand. And the students‘ camaraderie and willingness to sacrifice themselves for what they believe in aren’t values he shares, but the grifting, trashiness, and cruelty of the Thenardiers are right up his alley.
I’m shocked he even patrons musicals, let alone Les Miserables.

Les Miserables is by far my favorite work of art. Book, musical, movie. I love all of it. Victor Hugo would be appalled at Donald Trump and hate everything he is.
It honestly depresses me to know that trump likes Les Miserables and probably doesn’t understand a single thing about it, because he’s clearly learned no lessons from it.
Aside from the obvious lack of self-awareness in the fact that Trump’s favorite musical is Les Miserables, the article also doesn’t seem to know the show too well, as they state that it takes place during the French Revolution. But it doesn’t. It takes place over a generation later.
