This isn’t the right sub for it, but since I’ve already seen this map posted 5 times and the 2025 report just came out this afternoon, I’ll leave this here for fellow Portuguese:
Our score was 0.890.
The HDI measures life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling*, and GNI per capita.
Basically, we aren’t above 0.9 (which seems like an arbitrary benchmark anyway, since it’s not used as a cutoff between development levels in the report) because of *. The report lists 9.7 mean years of schooling for Portugal, which is low compared to countries with higher scores.
Life expectancy at birth and expected years of schooling are doing great. GNI is similar to a few countries that ranked above us, and even above two that ranked above us, although they’re using 2021 data for GNI and 2023 for the rest of the indicators.
Overall ranking is 40, previously 41.
Once this reaches Portuguese subs, please try to keep a level head, instead of the usual „Portugal is the worst country of all time“ narrative. The HDI means little when you’re comparing centesimal points.
