Barely gets mentioned in our history, unfortunately. He’s a very interesting historical figure, and I’d put him 2nd only to Napoleon for the time period

Just another albanian doing more for another country than for his own 🤣

Mean something? He’s largely irrelevant to Albanian history, his contribution to his ethnicity might as well be non-existent.

As someone who is interested in history, I respect him highly, fellow Albanian who was successful in his own attempts. The problem? Another Albanian who did more for the others than his own population.

He’s incredibly important to Albanian history. I’m surprised at the comments here. Ali Pasha secured Albanian dominance in Egypt. If you read his story you’ll learn he only agreed to reconcile with the Ottoman Sultan on the condition that Egypt remain under the control of his family/Albanian rulers. So up until the 1952 revolution Albanians ruled Egypt. Little known but very true and awesome fact. Anyone who says he did more for himself than Albanians is misinformed.

He doesn’t mean jackshit, he’s just a footnote, we had our own Ali :

Albanians are so self centered that in their minds if you haven’t done anything for Albanian then you are irrelevant. Regardless how great you were. Other nationalities take pride of their people regardless where they achieved greatness.

To us he is a weird case, like how tf does an Albanian ends up in Egypt. However ultimately we love to poke fun at middle east and turks using him as a front meme.

Most albanians dont even know him. Only history buffs learn about Muhammad Ali through the internet. Hes almost never talked about in our schools or media.

It’s unfortunate that more Albanians don’t know about him, considering how many Albanian guys are sitting around cafe’s enjoying his modernization of the hookah/shisha.

It’s not even certain Ali pasha had full Albanian heritage for one. And he served in Egypt as an ottoman commander and created a personalized dynasty that in the end was more Turkish speaking than Albanian. There’s not one single cent of evidence he held even the most remote Albanian identity other than his troops (which he replaced with native Egyptians eventually).
No he didn’t have much of any impact on Albania.
