    1. From Bloomberg News reporter [Greg Stohr](https://www.bloomberg.com/authors/ABoe0szR3_0/greg-stohr):

The US Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to start discharging thousands of transgender servicemembers, including people who have served openly for years.

Over three dissents, the justices dealt a major blow to LGBTQ rights, pausing a lower court order that had put President Donald Trump’s new ban on hold during a legal fight.

President Bonespurs removing people who have been serving the country well, for no good reason, just to further demonize a vulnerable group to satisfy bigots.

      This is disgusting.

Isn’t military recruitment way down? How can they afford to keep purging their ranks and hope to maintain a standing military?

    4. Rdick_Lvagina on

      >Trump issued his ban through [a Jan. 27 executive order](https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/prioritizing-military-excellence-and-readiness/), which said expressing a “false” gender identity “conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle” and “is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.”

I’m wondering why the troops need to exhibit humility and selflessness but none of their executive branch leaders do. Not to mention honor, truthfulness and discipline.

This is a horrendous ruling, but at least I know my trans daughter will not have to serve if Trump gets us in some stupid war.

    6. Short-Ring-9705 on

Why should anyone sign up? They don’t want to take care of you after your out or in.

    7. Troubled202 on

What a corrupt Supreme Court. Civil rights are on the chopping block. Performance based on merit my ass.

    8. breadman_toast on

Anybody who openly supports this should be required to serve in their place. Of all the things I can’t understand about these people, their desire to push willing service members away from serving might be at the top of the list.

When there is actual data that demonstrates that Trump and Hegseth are just making shit up.

      Embarrassing.

Join the military to serve a country that has done little but harass you only to be dismissed by a rapist who dodged military service.

    11. Global-Statement-113 on

Wow, they are ready to die for their country but Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, won’t let them!!

    12. Correct_Juggernaut24 on

I hate my country so fucking much. It’s all because of this man and his placed henchmen.

    13. This is not surprising considering the same court ruled that more than half the population can’t make their own health care decisions. This is a terrible ruling with consequences that will harm honorable Americans for no objective benefit to anyone.

    14. Crystaldaddy on

This is so embarrassing. Another paragraph in the shitty trump chapters.

    15. The Supreme Court is just another instrument of oppression. They long ago gave up protecting our rights and now only exist to serve the fascist and oligarchs. My heart is broken with this final collapse if our democratic ideals.

    16. Conservatives, and please let them answer, how does this help the military? If someone has proven their qualifications to be a part of the military, how does gender disqualify them?

    17. JabbaTheNutt__ on

In a firefight, survival comes down to skill, trust, and teamwork—nothing else. No one has time to worry about gender identity when lives are on the line. If someone is trained, capable, and has your back, that’s all that matters. This decision just weakened the US military.

    18. ErusTenebre on

Can you imagine being so hated that the president uses his uninhibited power to force you out of a position you sacrificed many different paths in life to take because you thought it was the right thing to do?

This will affect roughly .7% of the military.

      7/10ths of a percent.

~20,000 military personnel that work for their country.

It’s so fucking hateful and stupid that it should have drawn derisive laughter from any judge.

      Instead we get this.

      What a fucked up country.

    19. bignasty410 on

So can someone say they are about to transition if there were ever another draft this disqualifying them? Doubt there would be a draft but just saying

    20. We’re too strong for sports, but too weak for the military, and too strong for public bathrooms, but too weak to handle basic cosmetic surgeries. What’s the truth, conservatives?

    21. In a country that says they have a recruiting problem it’s crazy to think they would turn away people that are willing and physically qualify (other than this new disqualification) for service.

    22. Ben_Pharten on

Seems like he is taking a lot of evil actions to weaken the country overall. The military, the economy, the middle class, you name it.

    23. Because we need less people defending this nation🤦🏽‍♀️ way to go less than supreme court.

    24. The far-right black-robed troglodyte supermajority’s evisceration of American women’s reproductive freedom 3 years ago next month was only the beginning.

Barring transgender Americans from voluntarily serving their country in uniform constitutes Republican LGBTQ-loathing bigotry at its foulest.

Today’s decision is wrapped in the same brand of preposterously rationalized judicial horseshit deployed to place women in politically red states at the mercy of Republican forced-birth fanatics who place more value on dead fetuses than saving the lives of women at death’s door from pregnancy complications.

Marriage equality, the Affordable Care Act, no-fault divorce, and who knows what else appear eminently on the chopping block, with Trump’s return to power ultimately thinning the ranks of lower-court judges willing to block Trump’s hateful lunacies at the starting gate.

    25. Discharge people from a volunteer military seems like a big brain move. /s

    26. All 5000 out of 1.35 million active duty servicemen.

Ostracizing 5000 people who have done their duty with distinction and honor, earning their way is disgusting

    27. itWasALuckyWind on

I am terrified of the decisions they’ll drop in the middle of pride month. As they have made a spiteful tradition of ever since overturning Roe.

      They have signaled intent. Unambiguously.

    28. Grand_Stranger_3262 on

So they’re allowing trans people to be removed in advance of the actual ruling?  And if the ruling is that trans people can be in the military, will they drag them back?  Are we talking honorable discharges, or will they have the taint of medical discharges on them?

    29. And this is why everyone that was praising the SC for one ruling should take note—they’re okay with things… just not with anyone threatening their power.

If they could find a way to consolidate all judicial power into their court, they probably would.

    30. This is so stupid at a time when the services are finding it difficult to find qualified people.

    31. redrocketredglare on

I support ANYONE that wants to defend this country. Once again something so un-American the orange man does that is now becoming the norm. I hate this time line

    32. And then conservatives wonder why no one wants to serve their country. I don’t think it’s lack of patriotism…

No one wants a job that they have to sacrifice a lot of things for knowing that in return the government will screw them whenever it possibly can…..the government literally asks you to give 100%( your body, your mind, your wellbeing) all so that it can discard you like you’re trash. If they break you they try to do everything possibly not to compensate you for the pain they caused…..and of course anything that the government agreed to do for you when you sign up, the government tried its best to weasel its way out of its own word….

      No one wants that.

    33. Small_Cutie8461 on

Congratulations we lost about 150 to 1000 people. And what the Trump administration is done is piss on the military again. They have pissed on military families, friends of the military, and everybody else that matters in that stack so to speak. All he’s doing is creating more enemies.

    34. Damn republicans just love to hate and hurt, they are just horrendous individuals.

    35. Bravely_Default on

Does this mean anyone looking to get discharged or avoid a draft can say they use they/them pronouns?
