  1. “I’m going to be talking to my constituents, talking to elected officials in my riding, talk to people to get their point of view; because I represent a riding – I don’t just represent myself.”

This is a great thing to hear. We need more of this.

  2. This guy is just taking advantage of the spotlight at this point. It’s not the first time he’s broken rank with the LPC when it comes to Israel. But if he’s seriously considering crossing the floor to the Conservatives, over a single issue, then he needs to realize that he’ll need to become a mouth piece of Poilievre’s rhetoric.

That means mentioning the carbon tax every other second, and then having to explain why he suddenly is against it when he was for it before. That means favouring anti-trans policy, throwing away Liberal values on minority rights. That means pandering to the crazies and the conspiracy theorists, something that will make him lose a ton of credibility with his constituents.

If he wants to leave, then leave. But the other side isn’t greener just because they take the kind of stance on Israel you wish the LPC took. If the LPC attempts to take balanced approaches to Israel/Palestine, he’s the perspective the party needs. But he can’t expect to manipulate the party to bow to his wishes just because he’s upset.

The Liberals really only have one route to success.

MASSIVE focus on the Housing Crisis and in particular Affordable Housing. They seem to be waking up to this with the rumors of the new budget provisions.

Cleaning up the pathways and programs into the nation. Programs like the International Student Program can not exist in the dumpster fire state they are. Also the various programs and pathways into the nation can’t simply be about the business class getting unlimited cheap labor. The videos of line ups for jobs is making public perception even worse on these issues and it was pretty much already rock bottom.

General crime but also Scandals/Corruption in government. Focus on Transparency.

They need to completely flip the script on these with massive pushes. Right now they are associated with all those problems.

The Carbon Tax issue is going to lose them some support in key areas and that is why Pierre is pushing the no confidence even though he knows he will lose. He wants to further alienate those areas from the liberals.

They are going to lose some support on both sides no matter what in regards to Israel/Palestine.

So they only have one chance to success. Massive push to get the broad amount of regular non aligned people back.

Can they do it? I have no idea but if they don’t go balls to the wall on the above issues they are going to be destroyed in a landslide. Especially since Pierre is fine taking up the anger/fear and frustration on those issues and hurdling that as blows to the government over and over and over again.

This guy only cares about Israel. That is his one issue. I’m not sure why he would stay with a party that’s not aligned with his one passion.

Given how reliably Liberal Mount Royal is (they won it by a margin of over 30% in 2021 and held onto it in 2011), doing that would basically end his political career.

  6. From the point of view of winning the seat the Conservatives may take him, but I don’t think his record on things particularly his behavior during SNC-Lavalin make him particularly attractive to the Conservative membership as a whole. He would do better as an independent. But his career is probably over considering the antisemitic route the Liberals are going on.
