It’s not mentioned in this piece, but with the backlog at these levels (more than a quarter million cases!), there’s some likelihood of a class action lawsuit against the government that could result in a mandamus order to mass approve substantially all of the outstanding claims. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like this filed in the next six months. (I’m not saying it would be successful, but it’s not an implausible claim to succeed either.)

they should try processing new claims first (last in, first to process) to stem the number of new claims being made.
