I have to admit I didn’t have a lot of expectations for systematic change due to this government being chronically reactive in governance versus proactive.
However this issue and surrounding issues is obviously in the reactive stage and it still is getting small reforms and small reductions in regards to the massive reductions and massive reforms needed.
With a government that is polling terrible on these issues and in general you think they would be looking to radically shift policy before the election.
With over a year left before the election it would allow them to hopefully change some narratives.
They still do not seem to be getting the message or maybe refusing to accept it which might be even more frightening.
After listening to Marc Miller all year and seeing how rapidly this government has changed it’s tune on immigration and temporary resident levels the past few months, I’m now thinking the government has been genuinely caught off guard at how quickly this issue has become mainstream in Canada. I think they just assumed that, even with glaring issues it’s causing, Canadians would be timid about criticizing the current plan.
I mean cutting PR numbers? That would have never been floated even 6 months ago. The reason all these changes to immigration are “announcement” about future plans is because they’re making these plans up on the fly to fix a gaping issue they didn’t expect they’d have to.
Real talk, get us back to temporary and permanent immigration levels of 10 years ago and reverse recent criminal justice changes so we can go back to law and order and you very well may win my vote back.
