tldr; Circle is set to introduce NFC contactless payments for USDC on iPhones, leveraging Apple’s decision to allow third-party developers access to the iPhone’s NFC chip and Secure Element technology. This move will enable seamless USDC transactions at point-of-sale systems through a simple tap, expanding beyond USDC to include other digital assets like NFTs and different stablecoins. The feature will be available in select countries, excluding the EU for now. This integration aims to simplify crypto transactions and could also support loyalty programs rewarding customers with crypto.

Allthough it’s very nice to see this kind of innovation but how would it work? Let’s say I have a wallet with some USDC on, I go to super market and buy some stuff and pay by opening the wallet, put the phone to the nfc supported terminal, correct?

However that terminal is probably owned by some tradfi financial institution? So why shouldn’t I just use my regular bank card?

What do we gain out of this?

Are stablecoins not only useful if it’s peer to peer, according to the whole ethos of crypto…?
